We booked a room at Boholt but was sent to Reykjavik 101 Appartments (same owner) upon arrival. Hard to complain and argue @2am after a long flight. The Bolt appartments were used by a large group.

No message from the management in advance. (phone & email was available)

The new appartment was ok, but was not in the pick-up lists for tours, flybus etc.

We arrived a little bit early but were greeted by the manager who told us our room would be ready in about 30 minutes. We parked the car right out front (plenty of parking) and walked about 10 minutes into town to have lunch.
When we came back the manager was gone but the cleaning staff was able to get our key to the room. It was roomy and nice looking - very Ikea. Big windows that looked out to the main street. i was worried about noise but there wasn't a problem as the apartments are very quiet both inside and out. However, the drapes did not block out all the daylight so be more prepared than we were and bring an eye mask.
That night we walked back into town for the pub crawl and had so much fun. The city seems very safe and we weren't worried at all about walking back to the hotel at 3:30 AM. Something we would never do in Chicago.
The next morning I noticed we didn't have enough towels and that the previous guests towels had been left behind so I took them to the laundry room and picked up some fresh ones. Came back to the room had a shower and made some breakfast from the food provided in the fridge. It was a nice perk. There was bread, jelly, cheese and ham. We supplemented it with peanut butter and bagels. The kitchen is pretty well stocked and you could cook meals if you wanted to. No freezer though.
We used the free wifi daily and enjoyed watching movies on TV.
The location is really convenient for traveling because you're so close to the main routes and can get to where you need to go quickly by car. It's also really nice being close to town and all the fun things to do and see there by walking.
Check out was easy as well. We locked the door to the room and dropped the keys in the mail box and then out we went!

This hotel is better than it sounds in some of the reviews. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. It's kind of a strange hotel just because it is located on the fourth floor of what I think is an office building. We didn't have any issues checking in, and did see several staff around the week we were there. It is very good if you like privacy, as we didn't see too many of the other guests. The room was very quiet.

There is a kitchenette with microwave, small fridge, sink, toaster, plates, everything you could ask for really. The free breakfast means they stock your kitchenette with bread, butter, jelly, cereals, milk, and juice (enough for the week we were there). It was actually nice, we bought some extra stuff from the grocery store and only went out for dinners.

In my opinion, the location can't be beat. It's quiet, yet close to the city center. There is a gas station across the street, a supermarket down the block. I enjoyed some of the shops they have right around the area on the way to city center. We popped into a shop down the block with some amazing handmade woodwork and jewelry. We also walked to Kringlan mall one day. If you happen to rent a car, skip the 10-11/Bonus markets and go to the market on the first floor of Kringlan. They have more selection of food, cheap good quality Italian olive oils, chocolate, many things the markets in city center did not have. I would not recommend it if you are walking, though, as the walk is pretty far, and it would be difficult to carry groceries all that way.

The Nordica is across the street, so many tour guides will be familiar with your location. There is plenty of parking if you happen to rent a car.

One of the reviewers complained about towels. We had clean towels the whole time, but there is also a room in the back with clean towels, extra pillows, etc. I got the feeling that if you wanted to, you could just get some from there.

Only cons are the room could have been cleaner, and the king bed was actually two twins pushed together. I know this is the standard for most hostels, and it was fine for us, but make sure that is OK with you if you are looking for more of a romantic getaway.

Also, one of the staff was very helpful to us on our last day. I was a little concerned with how late our bus was picking us up (I thought I read the directions wrong). He knew the driver at re.is and called him on his cell phone to see why he was so late. A small gesture, but very reassuring when he let us know the guy was just late and we were in the right place.

I loved Iceland and plan to come back. I would definitely stay here again.

Bolholt is close to the Hiltoon hotel. The appartements are a little old (especially the bathrooms), but okay. They just do not have any flair (not like in the pictures on the website!). "Incl. Breakfast" means, that you´ll find Bread, cheese, butter, jam, milk, Cereals in the fridge!
Good thing: The landlord borrowed us his old laptop, so we could use the internet in our room for free!

Arriving at Bolthole, there were no keys at the desk for us. We used the phone in the hall, but the person who answered had no access to booking details, so we were asked to try several rooms by using the spare keys behind the desk - this obviously worried one guest when we entered their already occuppied room with another key!

Finally, we found one empty - the very small No. 11, noted by another reviewer,. However neither the bathroom nor the kitchenette area had been cleaned (the fridge was horribly gungy!)

Anyway, we were told that another guest had accidently picked up our keys and we were moved to the far more spacious room Number 1 - but guess what, that hadn't been cleaned either. It's not much fun washing in a sink covered in the last occupants' shaving foam and bristles.

Our sink was actually blocked, which took two days to be fixed - the sinks, shower and toilet were never cleaned and the shower curtain was really scummy.

OK - so enough of the negatives.

The 15 minute walk to the town is pleasant and easy, the fixtures and furnishing OK and the packets of ham, cheese, bread , juice, milk and cereals were fine; this could be a nice bolt hole, on Bolholt.

But ... sheer laziness in not cleaning, let the premises down. I wouldn't invite people to stay at my home with that level of dirt (have a look under the bed!), so why should a people earning an income from paying guests treat them so shabbily? For the sake of a clean shower curtain, a good vacuum and a squirt of beach and cif, this could have been fine, For that reason I give it the lowest rating.
