Owner description: A Viking Museum that intimately recreates key moments in Icelandic early history, moments that have determined the fate of our people and which give a compelling view into how Icelanders have lived for more than a millennium. From the time of the earliest settlers, history is brought to life in a unique and exciting way, with life-like wax wax figurines. Visitors are guided through the museum with an audio-guide.

I would not have gone out of my way to go to this museum, but we were in the Pearl and it had received good reviews in Rough Guide. I will say that the figures were very realistic, but the admission price for what is really the Icelandic Madame Tussand's makes it a tourist trap.

Not so much a museum (no old artefacts) as an exhibition. The audio guide takes you around about 17 scenes with life-sized dummies dressed and posed as ancient inhabitants. Pretty cheesy but surprisingly interesting. The welcome card gets you 10% off the admission.

I am all for blood and guts and gore and I like a good beheading as much as the next fellow but.... All the write-ups talk about how this is not for the faint of heart. Well frankly the faint of heart is that they charged money for this.
Essentially you have 13 wax diorama's depicting snippits from Icelandic Saga history.
You can't share this with the person you are with since you need to have on the provided headset player to get the description of what you are seeing.
Definately not for children - not due to the gore but do to the attention required to get something from the narration.
Perhaps if you haven't seen a really good museum this would be considered impressive but by todays interactive standards this left us very disappointed and wanting for more.

The best part about the museum was how lifelike the wax figures were. They were made very well. Unfortunately, the museum itself seemed to fall short. It gave brief descriptions of several sagas but not enough to actually learn something and it was often confusing. I wish they had only told us 2 or three of the sagas but in more depths or some history behind the sagas, it was too shallow to actually get anything out of it.

This tableau museum gives a no-hold-barred history of Iceland primarily from a blood-and-guts approach. This is perfect for pre-pubescent boys who tend toward the battle-loving, bloodthirsty side of things. The tableaus are so lifelike that we truly thought several had live actors. The audio tour is well worth it, as is the printed guide to take home.
