“Hilmar is the man!”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

The hotel itself is in a great location. Walking distance to everything you need. Tons of restaurants near by, a bar inside the hotel.
The only downfall is the construction going on, we had to change rooms because our first room was simply too loud. We couldn't even talk to each other. We moved into one of the rooms in the other building. It was quite the journey to get to all the time, but very quiet once we got there. Much appreciated.
The night time front desk guy, Hilmar, provided the best service I have ever had in a hotel. He made reservations for us, he brought some things to our room when requested, gave us great tips about where to go and even had to step in as the bartender sometimes. Amazing guy!

Room Tip: The room is the "dungeon" are harder to get to but worth the walk. 131-139 I believe

Restaurants, bars, cafes and whale watching are all within 5min walk from the hotel.
Free parking from 6pm - 10am just outside of the hotel!

We were given a twin room at first by mistake then got given a double room as soon as we told them of the error. Honestly, the twin room on the 4th floor seemed a little dark and worn. The double room on the 6th floor had a better view and everything seemed more in place. I would advise to bring your own toiletries as all that was provided was a bottle of hand wash and body wash. We had a double bed with two single duvets which was unusual but kept us warm! I wouldn't praise on room keeping...the shower drain probably needs a good wash as it gave an off smell when in use.....

Breakfast was good and staff were pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this for a short stay (and not for northern night spotting)!

First visit to Iceland, took my wife on our 15th wedding anniversary as we were looking for something different.

The hotel location was great, easy walking distance to shops & restaurants.

We were given a room facing the rear of the hotel on the sixth floor, the shower flooded the bathroom after each shower. The double bed had 2 single quilts on it which was odd and inconvenient as we just as well could have had 2 single beds, when we quizzed reception they informed us that double quilts are not available in Iceland, when we book a double bed we expect a double bed with a double quilt.

We had a kettle in the room with tea & coffee unfortunately there was never 2 of the same of any tea and only ever 2 sugars which we found that stingy, we recommend you bring your own tea and sugar.

The restaurant staff were very robotic, not once on our four night stay did any member of the restaurant staff acknowledge us, not a hello, excuse me or thank you or goodbye. The staff would clear up around you but not even look at you, this is the first place ever I have experienced this and found it rude and annoying.

The reception staff however were the opposite, helpful and friendly.

I'm not sure if all the restaurant staff were migrants and did not speak English or were mutes, they were dam rude and I request the management to look into this as the experience was not satisfactory.

Booked through Iceland air and did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that this hotel was very nice. The lobby has a waiting area for the tour buses, a bar and sitting area. The rooms were of good size- had a mini fridge, Tv and nice sized bathroom. It was clean and comfy. I would return again.
You CANNOT beat the location- very close the world famous hotdog stand and old harbor for the northern lights boat tour within 2-5 mins walking distance.
The city turns into one big night club after 11 and yes there wis some noise but have fun and go with it!! If not the noise is not too bad or for too long!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and we were very pleased. The location is prime, situated on a square with restaurants, shops, cafes, and sights of interest right nearby. A few minute walk from the pond. The staff were very courteous and efficient. They were very helpful in arranging tours and answering any and all inquiries. We arrived as part of a large tour and we were processed quickly and efficiently. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice shower. The breakfast buffet was a great way to start each day.

We stayed here on our first and last day of a weeks trip. If i had only stayed here on the first day it would have got 4stars.... Good central location, the room was lovely, choice of pillows, large bed, nice shower and a view over the small square out the front, this was a room in a newer part looks recently refurbished.... Then we came back to stay on our last night before flying home, put in an older room, well the contrast is amazing, nasty old bed, which even my feet hang out the bottom and i am only 5ft, old shower which brown grouting, looked dirty, the view was the side of a building wit graffiti where the dustbins are kept, really tatty old room it was like they didn't care now that you were going. To top it all we asked them to book the flybus for us for our flight hime, which they said they did, a few other people did the same, we were left all waiting the next day as the receptionist clearly hadn't booked it, luckily Flybuss are very efficient ands end a bus as quickly as they could to get us all so we didn't miss the flight...and the hotel receptionists attitude was " well you can get a taxi" no apology very blasé.
Such a shame that the hotel has a very good side but also a very bad side.... When booking ask for a room in the refurbished part overlooking the square and you will be ok.
Breakfast was ok

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the refurbished part overlooking the square
