Reception staff are great and very helpful, and patient as we witnessed them being very professional dealing with some guests asking stupid questions one after another. Another plus point is the free wi-fi in the room and alsothe breakfast. Choices from cold meats, cheeses, pickled herring, jams to scrambled eggs and sausages. The flapjacks are extremely good with a cup of coffee. The negative point was the room - it was clean but was a bit tired and dark. We had a view of another wall so we didn't get much daylight. The TV was old and we could only get CNN but we had wi-fi and you don't go to Iceland to stay in your room all day anyway! I think though we would try another hotel on our next visit to Reykjavik. However the location is perfect.

Great location--right in the middle of the capital, with shops and restaurants all around. Very modern and spacious. Popular with Americans (as per overheard conversations in elevator, lobby, restaurant etc.). Very helpful desk staff.

Room Tip: 502 is a corner room that will give you a lovely--almost 180 degree--view of the square and rooftops...

If OK is enough this hotel is OK. The service in the reception is great, but the hotel has clear signs of wear. The breakfast is one long disapointment, both in basement location and quality.location of the hotel in city center is a big plus.

My wife and I have recently returned from a 3 night stay in Reykjavik. We selected CenterHotel mainly due to price. We wanted something fairly central and other places seemed far more expensive. After a quick check on Trip Advisor, it looks like it was worth a shot.
We opted for the easy Flybus+ option from the airport changing at the main BSI terminal into a smaller minibus to take us to the hotel. Very straightforward
We arrived at the hotel at about 11am and knew that check in wasn’t until 2pm but the guy on the front desk made a few calls and asked us to come back in half an hour. We went to a lovely little cafe next door selling tea/coffee and sandwiches etc. True to his word when we arrived back in reception the room was ready.
Our room was clean but basic. I suppose you get what you pay for. Instead of paying the earth for a room that we wouldn't be in except to sleep we opted for a Standard Double. A double bed, large flat screen TV, mini bar and wetroom type bathroom. First thoughts were that it may have been a bit expensive for the price we paid but at the same time taking into account the location and convenience, we quickly overlooked this but others may not have
The location is perfect, right on a small square with a clutch of restaurants, walk through this onto Austurstraeti where there are more restaurants and bars (The English Pub is great fun with a good live band every night), walking straight onto Bankastraeti and then onto the main street for bars and restaurants, Laugavegur. All very quick and easy. Reyjavik you will come to notice is very small and it is very easy to get anywhere in the city centre. If you stay where we stayed or any hotel nearby you are in an ideal spot. Brace yourselves for pricey alcohol (download AppyHour on the AppStore for details of all happy hours in the city centre from 12pm – 10pm) but reasonably priced food generally.
Back to the hotel, the staff were great, really friendly, spoke fluent English and were our immediate choice when we needed to book trips or wanted restaurant recommendations. The breakfast is plentiful and varied, with meats, cheeses, cereals etc. A real haven for tourists, but that it what you would expect in the middle of the city!
Definitely give this hotel and Reykjavik a try!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel. It can be noisy at the front where the...

We experienced wonderful service from the staff at this hotel. They helped us arrange a wheelchair rental and went above and beyond what could be expected. Everytime I went to the front desk, the staff were polite and responsive despite being very busy. The breakfast gives you a great variety of meats, cheeses, granola, yogurt, eggs, breads etc. The only reason for not rating an excellent is the noise level. If you book, ask for a room in the back, away from the noise of the street. That being said we still slept ok due to the fresh air and exhaustion from our day adventures. The central location is perfect to give you a nice selection of restaurants within walking distance and felt perfectly safe for strolling. The rooms are decently sized and well kept, even in the older side. Don't forget to check out the happy hour at the hotel bar!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back or higher up will be less noisy.

If you we're comfortable in this hotel I'm happy for you but I would never stay there again. Staff was pleasant enough at check-in but when I returned to the desk to request a different room because there were apparently a jackhammer and cement mixer working next door. I was told that sometimes they just have to fix things, construction would continue throughout our 2 night stay, and there was nothing to be done, no other rooms available. Finally the manager was able to put us in a grim but quiet room in the back of the hotel. Additionally the elevator in the older building where we were given a room were broken most of the time during our stay, I was stuck in it twice and once while we were in it the elevator dropped 1/2 a floor after which we didn't use it again but I didn't enjoy moving my luggage up and down the stairs to the third floor. No warnings about using the elevator were ever posted. The shower flowed out of the bathroom and got the carpet wet. I got some bites on parts of my body which are never exposed in Reykjavik. I will say, however, that the breakfast was excellent and the basement breakfast room was cheery. Cleanliness was good unless you consider that the room carpet takes on water each time someone showers. A housekeeper walked in without notice at 8:30 AM. Location convenient but front facing rooms are not peaceful due to lively social scene in the plaza. Loved Iceland overall, when I wasn't on a tour we stayed in two lovely places, one an AirBnB in Mossfellsbaer, another a guesthouse near Akureyri. The Centerhotel Plaza is a holding tank for tourists. I'd recommend against it.

Room Tip: You might want to try the newer wing, not on the street.

Excellent location, good breakfast and a reasonable sized room. We were given a room on the modern side of the hotel and everything was to a good standard, clean and well maintained. Staff were helpful and non-obtrusive. Location was perfect - centrally located and has a nice choice of bars and restaurants just yards away. It was incredibly good value for money and we would definately stay again
