“Let the service match the property”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

A centrally located, first-class hotel and a product of the economic boom that came and went, the 1919 holds a high property standard for the City. Rooms are well appointed, clean and modern. The restaurant is pretty good, the staff there (often non-Icelandic) I have found highly service minded and extremely attentive. The restaurant and bar are not exactly buzzing waterholes however, I would aim for another experience if I had the time and go out to one of the many bars and restaurants nearby. At the 1919, it goes to show that the software must match the hardware. An attractive property is no guarantee for a flawless customer experience. Recently I have noticed alarming ways among reception staff, who are capable of ignoring guests and leaving them abandoned in an unacceptable way for this class of hotel. This may weel be a temporary slip, but perhaps also signs of becoming too content and resting on ones' laurels. We shall se next time, if there is one.

Thank you for this informative review regarding your recent stay with us. It is disapointing to hear your last stay was not with the service standard that we strive to always provide. It would be very helpful for myself and my team if you could provide some detail on the service discrepancies so we can follow up and make sure this does not become something that happens again. My email is: robyn.mitchhell@radissonblu.com
We appreciate your feedback and I hope to hear from you!

Sincerely,

The hotel is super central, rght in the town centre, by the square and the marina and not far from the shopping street. Pretty much most of the main sights are within walking distance. It's modern, quite smartly furnished, with large spacious rooms. Bathroom was less spacious and had a shower, not a bath, and was a bit cold too. We were on a mansard room so no view, our windows were skylights. The bed is comfy but the pillow quite the contrary. It's a bit pricey for what it is, we paid around 340€ for three nights with no breakfast, which looked very good but we did not ate here, preferring to go out instead. Service is ok but nothing too special. A bit noisy at night (3am) as locals go out and stay up late, so some noise comes up from the street event on the 4th floor. Wifi is free (unlike other hotels we had looked at) and works well in the rooms.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us.
Our location is as you say, super central and you are only a short walk away from everything Reykjavik has on offer.
Like most city´s, being situated in the downtown area of Reykjavik we can experience some noise coming from the streets at night. The Icelanders are known for their late night parties and it is an attraction in itself which everyone should experience. However, we do offer earplugs at the reception should there be need for it.

I do hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back to us when your travels brings you back to Reykjavik.

Best regards,

Frode Jansson & 1919 Team

Radisson Blu 1919 in Reykjavik have an excellent location, and great rooms. We were a group of 5 people that all stayed in independent rooms.

I was surprised about the attitude to some of the staff in the breakfast restaurant, but in total a good experience. To be charged 17 euros for the breakfast, after a late night in Reykjavik is too high.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel. I am very glad to learn you and your friends enjoyed your stay with us.

I am sorry to learn your breakfast experience wasn´t to your expectations. We are aware that our breakfast is an important factor in our guests stay, and we frequently go over our breakfast standard to ensure our guests receive value for money. In addition to our Super Breakfast Buffet, we also serve fried eggs to our guests liking, omelets, waffles and fresh coffee.

I hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back on your next travel to Reykjavik.

Best regards,

Frode Jansson & The 1919 Team.

Radisson 1919 is centrally located, within easy walking distance of all the sights in the city centre. It is not an inexpensive hotel and if you are looking for a budget deal this is not it.

Iceland does not have a true 5-star luxury hotel (and this is one of its good points!), but Radisson 1919 offers smart, comfortable rooms. The staff is professional and friendly. We were upgraded to a junior suite the last time we stayed there (July 2012). Wifi is free. The breakfast buffet is perhaps the finest in Reykjavík.

We stayed here in July for our honeymoon. They upgraded us and the staff was extremely friendly and responsive. The hotel is also very central and you can easily walk around to the shops and the tour company from there. The hotel was not super expensive by Reykjavik standards and is good value for money.

My girlfriends and I did a 5 day trip to Reykjavik in the off season. We had always wanted to go to Iceland, but the summer months are just too pricey, so decided to check it out in winter instead. The hotels go waaay down in price from Mid Oct thru March. There were a large selection of hotels, but the Radisson appeared to be in the best location and we were able to get a room for all 4 nights for under 500 dollars. Other hotels were cheaper, but it was so reasonable there was no need to.

The rooms were huge by European Standards. The beds were a little hard, but overall pretty comfortable. The beds come with a nice thick comforter that keeps you very warm. The rooms were completely spotless. The furniture was sorta Ikea'ish....modern yet very minimal (this style is typical of hotels in the Nordic countries). I personally didn't care for the location of the 2 windows in the room. We were on the top floor and the windows were more in the roof of the room so you couldn't really look out of it very well. The hotel elevator was also pretty small but again, that is typical of most European hotels.

The service at the hotel was very accommodating and friendly. We had to exchange dollars to ISK and they were able to easily. We also asked for extra pillows, towels etc and they brought it up to our room with no problems in a timely manner. When we needed directions, dinner reservations, or tour reservations the front desk took care of it all. This was a really nice added touch. Its a pain having to do this type of research when on vacation so the fact they took care of it all for you and offered great suggestions was really awesome!

Overall our stay here was awesome. I probably couldn't afford to stay here in the high season, but in the low season, this place is super affordable and definitely a great value!
