“great location, friendly helpful staff, comfortable rooms!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

I was so excited to stay here! I stayed only one night, but it was lovely. First off--you NEED black out curtains in your room during the summer as the sun doesn't really set. I thought all the hotels in Reykjavik had them, but after meeting other Americans in other hotels--that was not the case. This hotel has them! The location can't be better--its right in the heart of Reykjavik where you can walk to everything. Room was very clean and bathroom was spacious. There is no free internet or free wi-fi, but you can find free wi-fi around town. Bed was very comfortable. I paid with points, so I'm not sure how the value is, but the points seem to be fair for the hotel.

I stayed in a double room, which was spacious enough for one person, would have been a bit of a squeeze for two. The room was very clean. Other reviews comment on the fact that the bottled water has a charge. It should be noted that Iceland's tap water is of very high quality (Icelanders are very proud of it), so there is no need to use bottled water.

Hotel staff were very helpful with regard to booking trips and arranging for pick ups from the hotel. It was useful being able to charge all trips to the room and therefore only having to have one amount on credit card.

The breakfast was OK - excellent by UK standards, but as good as in other Nordic countries I have visited. The dining room was too small for the number of guests, which meant a lot of people wandering around with plates of food, trying to find somewhere to sit.

The location is really central. Reykjavik is a small city and the location was great for walking to restaurants etc.

Lovely modern hotel with old exterior in keeping with city. Nice size bathroom which is unusual. Great breakfast buffet which is expensive but could hold you until dinner. They charge for internet in a country where everyplace is free. Able to sweet talk them into password or go out by front door and get it free from across the street

We arrived at 4, only to be told thus were overbooked and had no room for us. The room had been booked months in advance. We were shunted to a much inferior hotel. We had no choice as the town was packed for a festival. I have travelled around the world and have never had this occur. This hotel simply cannot be trusted to honor a reservation.

Stayed 3 nights. Great location, in walking distance of everything especially lots of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. It's one of the "main" hotels so all the shuttle busses/coaches/taxis are familiar with it. Cute decor outside and inside. Decent rooms with best shower I've ever used - very powerful. Staff fluent in English, booked the Golden Circle tour through Reception which was quick and easy. The bar has great food - try the steak sandwich! My only complaint is that I booked my return shuttle to the bus station (to change for the airport shuttle bus) and basically they didn't book it and had to pay for a taxi to the airport which was about £80... very relieved when this happened but annoyed coach wasn't booked initially. Would return

We stayed in the city for one night and the hotel did its job. It provided a clean room and bathroom and good service for a reasonable price.

There is nothing to really "write home about." The room is simple. Our queen bed was really two twins pushed together and the shower was just big enough for a smaller man like myself. There is nothing to watch on tv but you're in iceland so stop watching television! The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. and the location was great. You had easy access to walk around the main part of the city and to transportation.

The restaurant was packed but we did not eat there. People seem to like it.

Overall, I'd say if you were like and unsure about where to stay, then book here with confidence but don't be surprised to not get much for your money.

Room Tip: We had a room in the "back" of the hotel to avoid any noises from the main street.

We stayed in the self catering apartments which were separate from the hotel complex. The room was modern, airy and very well equipped the bathroom was modern and clean. the living area had plenty of storage and seating, complete with flat screen TV and free internet access (this was a bit sporadic for me but not sure if this was my equipment as our friends stayed in the next apartment and they had no issues). The kitchen was basic but had what you needed, although we didn't use this as we ate out, we only used to brew up and for this we had to boil a pan of water as there were no kettle!
The apartments were accessed via a flight of stairs to the outside and then another flight to the first floor so not so good if your not ok with stairs as there is no lift.
We had to walk over to the main hotel for our breakfast but this was no hardship and it was worth the walk anyway (not even a minutes walk), buffet style breakfast from continental to cooked all of which was good.
Staff friendly and helpful, lovely restaurant's all within a short walk.
well worth a stay and I would go back

Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
