“Friendly and great rooms”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

Stayed here on our first night in iceland. Greeted by friendly staff who upgraded or room to a lovely two floor suite. Great location and good base for exploring south west Iceland. We went out for a meal but had the breakfast which had a wide variety of choices for everyone.

A nicely designed and brilliantly located choice in downtown Reykjavik. Clean, smart rooms, housed in a renovated old building. The staff happily let us check in several hours early and arranged an airport pick-up and transfer. Walking distance of everywhere and stumbling distance back after the runtur! Spot on.

Stayed for 3 nights in November 2012 and really enjoyed our visit. Our room was clean and warm, not huge but plenty of room. We thought the breakfast choice was good and the service was friendly. We had drinks in the bar but didn't use the restaurant, just becuase there was so much choice within easy walking distance. Location is the main selling point of the hotel, right in the centre of the old part of the city. The hotel doesn't have parking and I was a little worried about this but I shouldn't have been. There is a small parking lot at the side of the hotel and parking meters along the streets. However, we found it more convenient to park in the large lot near the harbour and walk the couple of minutes to the hotel. If we go back to Reykjavik, and I hope we do, we would stay in the Centrum again.

This is a wonderful hotel. It has been recently rennovated with an amazing blend of traditional and modern design and is a delight to stay in. No-one would want to stay in a modern box when you can stay here! The location is perfect, central to the old town, shops, museums, galleries and restaurants. The best in town, the Fish Market, is just next door and deserves top rating. The staff are very friendly and make you feel in a home from home. If we ever return to Iceland we would certainly stay here again.

Awesome hotel. Great staff. Also, if you can't figure out how to get free wifi at this hotel your a fool. As an example, this post is from my room and I didn't pay a penny for wifi. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a relaxing stay in reykjavik.

Superb location, clean, warm, helpful staff, interesting food (less so in the bar though), QUIET...this was my fifth visit and, having checked out some of the alternatives, I would go again. My interest is in Harpa, the new opera and concert venue, by the water, easy walking distance and for this Centruj is ideal.

Room Tip: Face back for quiet, front for a little street interest

I stayed here for 2 nights and this hotel has one extremely strong point: a simply perfect location. The standard rooms are basic, clean, not too large. It was quite warm or sometimes cold in the rooms and the windows cannot be openened more than 5 cm. Breakfast is basic but ok, and the staff friendly. Nice shower. Overall, not a hotel with a 5-star luxury but if you like good quality, clean rooms for a reasonable price at a perfect location, this is the place to be.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
