“The best location in town!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Centrum Hotel and had a really nice stay.

The hotel In my opinion is in the best location ... it's about 2 minute walk to the bars, pubs but far enough away to get away from the crazy nightlife!

Our room was room 223 and was a corner room, always clean and had fresh towels when needed them.

Breakfast is 2200ISK per person and was very nice, a buffet of bacon, eggs to pastries and meats & cheeses.

Staff were always very happy to assist and incredibly polite with impeccable English.
A special thanks to Sandra & Brynjar (I hope that's correct spelling!)

Amazing trip all round :-)

Room Tip: Room 223 is 2nd floor standard double corner room. No bath, just a very small shower cubicle

Charming little hotel in the heart of Reykjavik. Rooms very small but typical for many European locations and adequate. It's Iceland so there is no air conditioning which is fine, except that it allows for a lot of street noise when the windows are open. Weekends are particularly loud and can interfere with sleep.
Location can't be beat - close to restaurants, shops, bars and (non-cruise ship) docks.
Breakfast was included in our tour and was the usual assortment of scrambled eggs, sausages or bacon, some mornings crepes, always Skyr (a yogurt like dairy product unique to Iceland and very very good!) and fresh fruit and breads. Coffee was very good. The restaurant doesn't do much business at lunch or dinner and the one dinner we had there was just ok. A cocktail lounge is on the premises.
Overall we quite liked the hotel and would stay there again. It's quirkiness is all part of the adventure.

A well located hotel right in the centre of Reykjavik. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were fine and comfortable, and the beds are very comfy. Highly recommended - great access to all of "downtown" Reykjavik where there are many great bars and cafes.

This is my favorite place to stay in Reykjavik. It's located just steps away from all kinds of stores, museums, and restaurants in 101 Reykjavik, at the foot of the old retail area. The restaurant looks simple but has a wonderful menu, and the lounge and bar, Uppsalir, is a warm and cozy retreat for drinks and light fare by the fire.

The hotel is largely danish modern, so don't expect luxury here, but the rooms are clean, functional, and attractive. This hotel is only a few years old, but worn carpets and other issues are some first signs of wear.

Room Tip: The junior suite is surprisingly inexpensive for what you get--a two-level loft room with a balcony...

I have nothing negative to say about this hotel. It was our honeymoon hotel and it couldn't have been a more wonderful holiday.

Great city centre location. Interesting design. Clean and beautifully decorated.

Though you are in the centre of the town, it was quiet at nights.

Staff were really friendly and knowledgable and spoke good English (like most people in Iceland).

We loved our time here and our room had everything we could have wanted.

Had drinks in the bar one evening which was lovely and very modern. Didn't try the restaurant but it always looked very nice.

Cannot wait to return.

This is by far not the best hotel I stayed in, but it probably is the best in the centre of town, — at least this the view of the lady doing clinical research who sat down at breakfast with me and visits Reykjavik often. The hotel is slightly quirky, with some rooms quite small (e.g., room 209) but it is not your standard offering. It consists of a set of buildings of varying ages that have been decently renovated. It is adjacent to an extremely well presented archeological exhibition of a Viking long house, where you get a good idea of the settlement of Iceland in a short amount of time and a discount on entry if you say you are staying at the hotel. The Fish Market restaurant next door is also good if you like Icelandic/Asian fusion food that seems targeted mostly to foreigners. Other restaurants are a short walk away. The sound insolation in the rooms in the older part of the building is not brilliant and they did not serve cappucino at breakfast even though they do at other times of the day. They threatened to charge for Wifi — see Sacha Baron Cohen's film "The Dictator" for a most apt comment on this — but in the end they did not. At ISK 23 000 for room and breakfast (and Wifi!), the price/quality ratio was not out of line. Faut de mieux I would return. Don't confuse it with the Centre Hotels, which are inferior.

Room Tip: Avoid room number 209, which seems one of the smallest.

This is a great hotel in the city center. I was choosing between this hotel and another one that was about 15 minutes within walking distance to the city center. I was definitely glad that I ended up picking this one. The only thing I would say is that I wish they had a package which included breakfast at a lower cost since it's not included and is quite pricey (~$20 USD). (Many site-seeing and adventure tours depart between 8:30-9am and not too many restaurants / cafes are open earlier than 8am so you end up having to eat at the hotel—which is actually very good—just expensive). Then again, you can also get food from the supermarket and bakery just down the street if you plan ahead or consume food quickly (opens at 8am).

No free wifi but the cafe across the street as well as most cafes in Reykjavik have free wifi (many with no password).

Room was super clean and comfortable, felt like new with hardwood floors and modern furniture. The shower was REALLY small but the bathroom was extremely clean. Staff was very helpful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
