“Great location, tiny rooms”
Reviewed July 23, 2010

I'm still laughing about all the other reviews and how they all describe the owner of this hotel. It is true, he has an attitud and the first thing he is going to ask you is to pay, pay, pay! After that, he will take you to your room, or what can better be described as a closset. We booked a double ensuit and got 2 tiny little beds, a sink with some plates and utensils, a tv and a desk that if you use it blocks the entrance. The bathroom is made for elves! You can even move once you are in it. It also smelled really bad ( hot water in Iceland smells like rotten eggs because of the sulfur but only whe you use the hot water) this bathroom smelled like this all the time. If you want to be in the center of town and just need to crash somewhere for 1 night, stay here. Otherwise go somewhere else.

I stayed there a while ago, but have just recently registered with trip advisor and am leaving reports for a couple of hotels I felt strongly about in the past (both positive and negative). The location of this place is great, but everything else is awful. I was promised an en suite bathroom and instead had a shared bath. the owner had the nerve to tell me that "ensuite means shared in Iceland". Absolutely ridiculous, and the room and shared bath were both dirty and dingy. He was extraordinarily rude, and, I would even say, mocking, throughout my stay. He also refused to take a message when a rafting outfitter called to leave a message for me. The rafting outfitter actually complained to me about how rude he was and said they've had trouble with him before. I missed going on a trip as a result. It would be much better to stay at a hostel or spend a little more on a nicer place. Don't even consider staying there if the ownership hasn't changed. As it was, this was no bargain.

You have booked SHARED facility accommodation..thats why price and standard is lower, than if you would pay for PRIVATE accommodation.

Guesthouse AdaM is situated at realy nice location in Downtown Reykjavik. But this is the only good thing! It was very dificult to find the entrance, because it is not actualy at the Skolavordustigur street. By the entrance to the guesthouse was a mess and big hole full of trash and other stuff. Rooms are nice, but the service of this guesthouse is terrible (owner)! He was annoying, arrogant and absolutely without interest in his guests. There is a lot of hotels and guesthouses in that area, so why go to the worst one?! Never again!

My friend and I were on a tight budget when visiting Iceland so we booked this place
-despite terrible reviews- becasue it was the cheapest accomodation we found (16 cdn dollars a night split between two people). When we got there, check-in wasn't till 2pm but the owner let us leave all our bags in the foyer until check-in.
The room was great! A double bed with our own bathroom, microwave/sink and utensils to make food, and a small tv on the wall - much better than staying in a 24 bed dorm room for a more expensive rate in a youth hostel.
The owner was quite rude at first, but if you talk to him for a while you'll actually realise that its just his personality and he's actually quite funny. He told us all about what sights we should see and where to go eat. He even let us stay in the room until 7pm becasue our flight wasn't until later that night.
If your going to stay here, don't expect to be staying at some 5 star hotel. You get what you pay for - I would definalty recommend this place to budget travellers who don't want to spend a fortune on hotels in Iceland, and its better than staying in any hostel dorm!

Iceland was one of the most beautiful places we’ve stayed. Everyone was nice and openhearted except for one guy: The owner of the Adam Guesthouse. This man was the most unfriendly almost hostile person we’ve met in this beautiful country. He welcomed us with the words: “Why are you so early?” (we arrived at 1 p.m.) His second sentence of welcome was: “Give me your credit card”.
The room he presented to us smelled. An information sheet said that the tv in the room had Icelandic and British tv channels but there was no tv! Just an old computer monitor which wasn’t plugged in. When we entered the bath we saw mold on the wall. We ended up sleeping in our sleeping bags on the bed because the blood stains on the bed sheets didn’t look inviting…The lights weren’t working –which was obvious without any light bulbs….at the end we left one day earlier and chose the Reykjavik Campground

I haven`t stayd in this hostel, but now I know that I am deffinitely not going to. I have tried to find out the conditions of a car rental with Adam car rental, so I wrote an e-mail asking for the conditions and insurance.
I got a reply - copy from the web site.
Then I wrote again, what kind of insurace is in price.
Answer: "Selv risk EURO 1000"
So I wrote again, asking for the whole terms & conditions, because I did not understand.
The reply:
"Like all car rentals in Icelandf
Sorry
I don’t have time four this"

Never in my life I have experienced something like this. So rude and unfriendly...

Dear All,

It is our honest advise to try avoid staying at Adam Hostel at all costs. We had boked this hostel and tried to confirm the reservation and all other details by calling them. The person who answered was very rude, refused to provide us with any informatio. As a result, we had to cancel the reservation since we were not sure if we will be allowed in when arrived. Two thumbs down!!!
