“Great location, but could be much cleaner!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2010

Hotel Fron is located in the heart of Reykjavik. The back rooms are spacious and quiet. We shared a two bedroom, one bath apartment with a small kitchen and living room. It was an excellent value, given the size of the rooms, free breakfast, and the location. However, better cleaning is really essential. There was mold complety covering the window shade in the bathroom and in the upper corner of the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. The bathroom window did not close nor did the room safe. Despite complains, none of these problems were fixed during our stay.

Rooms are basic but clean. Enjoyed my stay here. Check in took longer than usual as the room was not ready. Continental breakfast was included and food was good. Hotel staff was friendly and was a great help in booking transportation and tours. The only complaint was that if your room is facing the front, it can get very noisy late at night when the drunks came out of pubs.

I recommend this hotel. Location was great too.

Nice hotel. A bit noisy early in the morning. Breakfast was OK, but had not much variety.
Location of the hotel is great. A lot of nice restaurants nearby. Staff was very helpfull.
Book your excursions in Iceland. Due to the value of the Icelandic money it's cheaper to book there.

In summary: Good location that is within easy walking distance to the local sights and nightlife. The cold breakfast, included in lodging cost, was very good. It included milk, a variety of cereals, juices, fruits, breads, meats and cheeses. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived early in the morning, so we had to wait to check-in (along with many other guests) until the afternoon for a vacant room. During the open period, we booked a trip to the Blue Lagoon (definitely worth while).

We arrived in Iceland at 11 o clock, really surprised how easy it was to get to Rekjavik from the airport. We'd already book the fly bus plus but could be done at the airport. This took us to the hotel door. We were given a room but it wasn't the studio as booked so asked about this in reception. We were then given a choice of 2 studio rooms. Photos on the website were a little mis-leading on these rooms. I think they may have been the Delux room photographed. There was No sofa and room was a lot smaller than expected but they were lovely and warm and had everything we needed.
I've only given cleanliness 3 due to the bathroom. The showers and floor were not particularly clean although some of this may be due to the silica in the water. One of the first things we noticed were the smell of eggs / drains although it didn't take us long to realise this was the hot water and normal.
The location of the hotel was fab, everywhere in the town was walking distance and all tours picked up from the hotel anyway. Vegemot bar/restaurant was really nice just down the way as was the vegetarian cafe opposite (up a flight of stairs).
Breakfast was pretty good, cereals, 3 types of bread and 3 jams, bananas and apples, yoghurts, meats, tomato and cheeses. tea, coffee, hot chocolate and juices. generally something for everyone and a few cheese sandwiches sneaked out for lunch!
We were in Iceland over Christmas, I couldn't believe how quiet the city was but Christmas is celebrated Christmas eve as well as Christmas day in Iceland. We managed to do the golden circle tour on Christmas day which was good as most of the city was closed. We found a pizza place for dinner in the evening and then visited the English pub which turned out to be illegally open on Christmas day. Super markets closed about 4 on christmas eve and opened again at midnight on the 26th. The town remained pretty quiet until the monday after christmas but all the tourist things were open so we found plenty to do. Over all Christmas in Iceland was a fairly unchristmassy christmas but it was definitely different and if thats what you want I would recommend it.

Great location, all the funky bar's and resturants right on your door step. The hotel is right on the main shopping street. Free internet use with a communal computer.. The staff were always very helpfull with advise on restaurants and trips.. The hotel was very clean and our room came with a small kitchen area. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.
