Great hotel right on the main street in Reykjavik. When we checked in, we were given a twin room. When we discussed this with reception, they moved us to a 1-bed apartment, with balcony - one of the best rooms in the hotel, despite the fact we'd booked a cheap deal online. The staff were really friendly, the rooms are very clean, and the apartments are very well equipped. Great place to stay.

The best thing about Hotel Fron is its convenient location. You're on a main street with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. And we were in one of their buildings in the back, so it was quiet.

We ended up with a HUGE room - it was an apartment with 3 bedrooms and a kitchen - for a very reasonable rate. (I'm not sure how that happened, as there was only two of us.) The central living space was a little crowded, but nicely decorated in a modern, Scandinavian style. The bedrooms were very plain and sparsely decorated; I wish they had taken the same care with the bedrooms as they did for the living area.

We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. We did notice there were bits of paper on our hallway floor outside our door the whole three nights we stayed, so we could tell they didn't vacuum as much as we would like.

The staff was nice and generally helpful; we requested help in securing reservations for a whale watching tour and they took care of it immediately. However, when we checked in it was late at night; the reception staff was very friendly but I wish she had been a little more helpful. The instructions were not clear in how to find our room. (There are several buildings in the back and we roamed around a bit with our luggage trying to find the correct building). Also, we asked for help in finding any spots where we could find something to eat at that hour. The staff gave vague directions but didn't offer to show us on the map as most hotels do. (Consequently, we didn't find the place she suggested.)

Their breakfast was standard compared to other Icelandic hotels at which we stayed. (I think they make the orange juice from concentrate, as it had the faint sulfuric smell of their water. Not too appetizing. Tip: Try the apple juice instead.)

Overall, a pretty good experience, and we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. Some face the street, which could get loud on the weekends. The room we had in...

The room in this hotel was a nice size and it even had a little kitchenette, which would be useful if staying in Reykjavik for a while. However, the toilet seat was broken and the shower leaked along the side of the shower head, so some maintenance was needed. The room also had a door out to a corridor that wasn't part of the hotel and it was the only way to get air into the room. This made us nervous as we did not have a sense of how secure it was. Consequently, we kept it shut and the room was overly warm. The staff was pleasant, but not particularly interested in extending themselves. For example, their internet connection was different from everyone else's we used in Iceland. It would have been helpful to have gotten a sheet of paper that explained this. On the whole, average, but perfectly OK as a place to stay. It is right downtown on the main shopping street, so convenient for spending money.

This hotel is in a very convenient location. The breakfast was good. But the hotel was very noisy at night. I had asked for a quiet room and it was on one of the higher floors, but the whole night through, all you could hear was doors banging closed, the lift beeping, people on the smoking terrace. I wouldn't stay again for that reason.

We stayed at this hotel on July 30th 2013. As many others have posted, this hotel is in a great location for exploring the downtown. We also found the property clean and modern. The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful with questions.

The location is the best in the country. This is right in the heart of Laugavegur. The room we got had a big balcony, extra bed for two more people, cooking facilities and was very spacious. All this for 130 Euros. This is a deal that you will not get in another European Capital, especially during the high tourist season.

The breakfast is very basic and nothing to brag about... but there are about 30 other great options for breakfast in 100 meter radius so no worries.

I stayed at the Hotel Fron for 2 nights in July 2013. We had booked a twin room on hotels.com for a decent rate. We arrived around 10am, figuring it would be too early to check in, but the front desk was nice enough to not only give us a room, but to upgrade my mom and I to a 2 bedroom apartment in the back building. Every time I spoke with anyone at the front desk they were very helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast was decent but not too extravagant. We did not have a car but I noticed there was some parking on site for an additional cost. The apartment was very spacious with a flatscreen television, full kitchen and updated bathroom with bathtub, and a small balcony. The building our apartment was in was very quiet, despite the hotel being located on the main shopping street in Reykjavik. It is a very short walk to many bars, shops, and restaurants and about a 10 minute walk to the harbor. I would highly recommend Snaps Bistro for dinner - it's a bit south of the hotel, near Hallgrímskirkja. Also, there is a Bonus supermarket 3 blocks east on Laugavegur, if you have a kitchen in your room.

One thing to note: the Flybus and excursion buses will pick up/drop off a block away from the hotel since Laugavegur is sometimes closed to vehicles.
