Description: Le Bistro is a small authentic French bistro and wine bar on Laugavegur, Reykjavik's main shopping street. Serving moderately-priced (for Iceland), classic and contemporary French food along with a great selection of wine and beer. As you step into this casual, lively and bohemic place, the French atmosphere is unavoidable. We serve slow food, with mostly local Icelandic ingredients. This is likely the only the place in the centre with a walk in policy, so you will probably only have to wait a few minutes for a table. Groups of six and more are welcome to book ahead. Bienvenue et bon appetit...

“New Year's Eve Dinner”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We ate here on New Year's Eve so probably slightly unfair to give a general review. However, it is a charming restaurant and the staff were sweet - even if the service was a bit chaotic, but then it was very busy and they seemed to have a skeleton staff and were running a reduced menu which was entirely understandable.

They operate a walk-in system which was to our benefit on NYE, we were sat upstairs to wait and have a drink whilst waiting for a table to become available which it did after 20-30 minutes and we ate upstairs also. Very nice and charming. The food was absolutely fine - Reindeer pate and the salmon for main. My partner had the lamb shank which was approved of. Yes the service was slow but it was NYE and they took us in off the street! I'd definitely go back and I'd definitely recommend - reasonable prices by Iceland standards.

“Quaint French-themed restaurant”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Loved this place, which is always busy but was able to find us a table immediately both times we went. Food is very good and legitimately French in execution.

Great decor. Young and friendly staff. Great location on Reykjavik's main shopping street.

“good atmosphere”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

lovely restaurant with a nice range of french-inspired food and some local icelandic fair. we didn't book in time to enjoy one of the fondue options but we sat at the fondue table and it was a delight and cosy. two of our group ate the icelandic fish mash and it was delicious ('normal' fish only! no whale or rotten shark) and the others ate burgers, which they said were good but not great. excellent service though, so overall a nice place to go.

“Go somewhere else”
Reviewed January 3, 2014 via mobile

Found on the main shopping strip. Read the menu outside and this place was open as many restaurants in the evening don't open til 5pm we tried here. It started ok with a bowl of olives and fresh bread then We had the devilish BBQ homemade sauce chicken and ribs. The portions arrived on trays they were so big but sadly they were all show and no go! I was expecting thick luxurious sauce and melt in your mouth meat, this was not the case! The sauce was watery and tasteless, the meat on both the chicken and ribs were dry. I even asked for tomato sauce to give them some flavour! It was our last night in Iceland and as all the other places we ate were fantastic this place really let us down. They do shots of Black Death so that was probably the only good thing about our visit! Black Death is a strong Icelandic spirit usually served with putrified shark, not for the faint hearted.

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. We truly value the opinions of our customers and we apologize that we did not meet your expectations.
Keeping in mind it´s impossible to satisfy all our customers, providing to all our guests the best possible experience is our mission. Tomato sauce? I’m shocked! We spoke with our Chefs about the question. We want you to know that we truly enjoy sharing our passion with visitors and want you to walk out the door feeling satisfied to the extent possible.
We feel quite shocked by the terms you used via Tripadvisor, but I totally understand your disappointment for your last day. If you feel coming back to our restaurant I would love to have the opportunity to speak with you directly, so please ask for me. Iceland welcomes you again and we wish you the very best.

“Average...bit of a tourist trap”
Reviewed January 3, 2014 via mobile

On a cold winters night this place looked just the ticket. Warm, cosy, busy...we sat down and were served water straight away and brought menus over. The food came quickly I had beef casserole but it was tough and actually inedible to the point where I had to say something to the waitress who immediately realised and removed it from the bill but stated it was an old batch of beef (it was boxing day so how old i wonder) and that todays batch was not so tough?! My partners chicken looked great on the other hand. I wouldnt return as there are so many other restaurants too choose from but maybe I was just unlucky!
