We done this with the golden circle tour and it was worth every penny. Left at 8.30am and got back at 8pm, every minute was enjoyable. Stopped off first at the national park for about 15 minutes, was a beautiful lake and great for taking pics. Takes about an hour and a bit to get here from the bus station, tour guide was fantastic and was not bored at all. Second stop was the geysers for just over an hour, they go off quite often so will see plenty during your stop then we went in to the cafe for some lunch. Plenty of choice and places to sit. 3rd stop is another 10mins down the road. We got off and viewed the waterfall, stunning place for pics and a memory you will treasure forever. Then boarded the monster bus to go up to the glacier. This was great fun and it gets stuck often which makes it exciting. The journey is about an hour but views are so worth it. Once at the top you get kitted out with your overalls and safety gear then get taken for a quick briefing. Don't rush as the changing room is small and loads of people try and get changed at once, you have plenty of time and it won't start without you. Then you set off one by one and drive across the glacier, hold on tight! You stop half way for pictures so don't try and get your camera out when driving/passenger.
Wrap up warm! I had wool tights, thermal socks, thermal waterproof snow boots, base layers, trousers, thick snow trousers, warm fleece, heavy wind proof & waterproof coat, wool gloves, my own thick gloves over the top, balaclava, scarf followed by the company's all in one snow suit! You still feel the cold! It was -14 when we were there. Take a good camera too, a few people in our group as well as us had iPhones and they switch off when they get too cold, just when you want to take the beautiful picture which is annoying. Fabulous day and lots of fun
