Owner description: Magmadive is a tour company which specialises in photography diving tours. They have years of experience and an impeccable reputation which ensures the experience of a lifetime and the utmost safety. They emphasise a high standard of personal service from the moment you send a booking request. On a dive tour in Iceland, you can explore the mighty Mid-Atlantic Rift, between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates, with your own eyes. The spectacular rock formations of the ancient lava which have been pushed up by the sea floor will give you a glimpse into a long-lost world. In some of the lakes, the glacial water, filtered through volcanic rock, becomes incredibly clear, offering visibility of 120m or more underwater. David Ramsay, the head of the operation, is a trained diver and chef in the British Royal Navy. It's his vision for adventure "in every breath, every dive and every tank" that forms the operations of the company, along with his passion for real food and quality, comprehensive service. He heads a team of experienced and professional dive guides that will take care of your every need while you're here.

If your idea of a diving holiday is sitting on a flash boat in the Red Sea, sipping Sakara and reading your Kindle then diving in Iceland won't be for you. But if you're up for a bit of adventure, diving in gin clear water and being treated really well and not just as another tourist, then diving in Iceland with Magmadive is a great experience.
I did 3 days diving with David and Selma- a couple of them in Silfra Gorge, another couple in Lake Kleifarvatn in the lava fields and one more in the Lake in the Þingvellir Park at a site called Daviðsgjá.
They pick you up in The Beast, a large pickup truck that has loads of room for you and the kit. A drive to the day's dive site with a coffee stop on the way, then David and Selma give you a briefing for the dive and get you in the water.
The dive at Silfra is stunning- a fissure filled with filtered glacial water that's so clear you could get vertigo looking down. It's cold- the water stays between 2°C and 4°C all year so it's proper drysuit diving. If you've never dived in a drysuit before then David will teach you how to use one before you get in at another dive site at Lake Kleifarvatn where it's shallow and the water is a much toastier 10°C. After the dive I got treated to the legendary hot chocolate and for lunch, some fabulous soup and homemade bread, just the thing to warm you up from the inside as even in August when I went, the Icelandic weather can be pretty chilly.
What's really nice about the Magamadive experience is the level of personal attention. You're not one of the hoardes arriving in a minibus to be churned through the dive. David and Selma go out of their way to give the personal touch that's missing from many companies. I felt really safe and well looked after, the kit was top notch and nothing seemed too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended.

Diving with magmadive.is a fantastic experience I would highly recommend to any diver.

Magmadive specialise in the 'personalised' diving experience. They only run very small groups and really look after you. This ensures that your diving experience isn't diluted by groups of 10 snorkellers all around you and you really get want you want from the trip. David, Kevin and Selma really look after you throughout the experience. From picking you up at your hotel, to preparing lunch and keeping you entertained with their fantastic sense of humour, your comfort and enjoyment is really paramount to them.

Personally, I did 2 dives at Silfra, with probably the best hot chocolate I've ever had in between (I'm talking Hot chocolate with marshmellows, whipped cream, cocoa sprinkles and grated chocolate on top), followed by lunch. David used to work as a chef and really goes to town on keeping you fed and watered. It's especially important to eat warm and hearty food when you're recovering from (or about to submerge yourself in) 2°C Water. To top it all off, David had even prepared a few beers for us non-drivers to enjoy on the way back to the hotel - all included in the price. He really does think of everything!

The entire itinerary can be entirely customised to your needs, from double dives at the wonderful Silfra in the Þingvellir national park, to exploration dives off the coast in whichever city you happen to be staying in.

Overall, Magmadive is one of the most professional dive operations I've ever dived with (I have over 300 dives across 15+ countries). Their gear is top notch, their attention to detail extraordinary and their hospitality exemplary - all at highly competetive prices. I cannot recommend them enough.

A brief word of warning - diving in Iceland is not for the faint of heart. It is cold and conditions both above and below the surface can be challenging. The Silfra dive site does require a walk of 50-100m in gear, but the team will help you if you don't think you can manage it. That said, it is rewarding and well worth doing, particularly if you've got a sense of adventure.
