“Mostly good but hire a car!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was clean, modern and the staff were very friendly. The downside was predominantly the location for us since we didn't hire a car. The trips we had booked all got cancelled but we were not informed by the hotel. They said they had tried to ring around the rooms to let people know but there were several guests who had been waiting in their rooms all day and had not been called.

Because the hotel was not within walking distance of the centre, you couldn't change your plans easily without booking a taxi, which left us not making the most of our time there. If we had been nearer he centre we could have just popped out for a walk around. Taxis were easy to come by but we found Iceland very expensive and couldn't afford taxis everywhere!

We walked to a nearby outdoor swimming pool one day but had not got swimwear so decided to buy it there. Little did we know how expensive it would be; £60 plus for a swimming costume!

I would recommend the hotel but advise you to check at reception that your trip is not cancelled and consider hiring a car!

The hotel is new, and the rooms are quite small, but immaculately clean. The staff and helpful and friendly and breakfast is very good. It's not in the city centre, but the bus service from the stop opposite the hotel is regular and the journey to Hlemmur Bus Station takes 3 minutes, then change there and it's another 3 minutes to downtown. The views across to the mountains from the hotel are beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel to get the best views.

Just read the review from drinksmat and I will say ditto to all their comments.
It is a city tourist hotel and the rooms are small but how long do you spend in your room when you are in Reykjavik so it doesn't really matter.
Would recommend

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the road - it was not noisy and you got a view of the sea and mountains in...

Just got back from 3 nights stay and thought it excellent for the trip. New and minimalist, clean, warm, good continenal breakfast and grat view if you are lucky and on that side of the building. Staff friendly and helpful. As mentioned elsewhere it is about 30 mins walk to the city centre but if you have time you can either follow the roads and shops or down to the nearby coast road and follow the path by the sea. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel if walking is too much. If you are looking for luxury then the Hilton is 2 buildings along the road.

Went to 2 good restaurants nearby - Askur was a local place with great fish options and there is a pizza restaurant right next to the hotel.

The tour companies picked up up from the holtel if you want so the location was not an issue if you did not want to walk into town. Very pleasent stay and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

A great place to stay on a trip to Reykjavik. The hotel is brand new, clean and comfortable; and the staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't particularly large, but we weren't planning on spending long in it, so that didn't matter. What more than made up for it was the view - snow-capped mountains looming large over the sea. Breakfast was also lovely and we ate pretty well.

A lot of reviews have commented on distance from the town centre, but it was no more than a 20-30 minute walk. We actually really enjoyed strolling back after dinner, and if suitably attired, it won't feel cold.

Reykjavik Lights isn't a characterful, glamorous hotel, but it won us over with great service and superb views. We were more than happy to spend our first wedding anniversary there.

An amazing holiday! Amazing hotel! From the helpful staff to the great quality rooms. It was fantastic! After spending five days in October (2013) I was pleasantly surprised. Before leaving I had checked out other reviews which had mentioned about the location. You couldn't be further from the truth. Whilst it is a good 20 minute walk from the center, it gives you an opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Why not take a lovely walk along the seafront towards the concert hall. Photo opportunities abound! Plenty of Restaurants. From Pizza, to steaks, to noodles and mexican. Recommend lemon on the end. A nice little cafe!

Your near the swimming baths. Worth checking out! All natural, even with a Sauna. A less cosmo version of the Blue Lagoon. Why not check out the Sculpture Museum? A bit of culture never hurt.

My room was a double. It had a fantastic view of the mountains and football stadium. Spacious with a lovely bathroom with rainforest shower. Clean and comfortable. Still looks new.

Breakfast was typical continental fair, replenished often. Lots of variety. Nice selection of teas for us british ;) Hotel doesn't offer a resteraunt persay but plenty of eateries outside the hotel. Recommend Tapas in town by the harbour. Happy hour between 5 & 7. Good after a long day out on excursions.

A word of warning. The Whale Tour was a waste of time. Obviously, the initial OMG we're out at sea factor soon wore off. Got great opportunities to take pics of the sea and mountains. Whales and dolphins are never guaranteed. Don't get sea sick. But you will get sick. Northern Lights is a must. Saw them. Incredible. Plus, Blue Lagoon. I'll be back for Ice Climbing next year ;)

Overall, very awesome. You'll love it! If you really want to get a feel of Iceland, go here. Whilst it isn't in the centre. Don't put that off. Get your walking boots on and explore the area. Well worth it.

Well done guys.

Room Tip: Don't do whale watching! Get your walking boots on and discover Reykjavik.

We've just returned from a stay at the Reykjavik Lights Hotel and we can't wait to stay there again. The entire hotel is clean and fresh looking. The staff are helpful and efficient. Breakfast was better than I was expecting and the various breads, cheeses and fruits were constantly replenished. Our room on 7th floor had a fantastic view across Reykjavik and the football stadium. It was so quiet I often wondered whether anyone else was staying on our floor! There was a flat screen tv so you can keep up with news and programmes from the UK should you wish to (all that fresh air is exhausting so sometimes you'll just want to flop in the room and recover!) There is a cute little hotel bar which has a happy hour.

The hotel is a 15 minute or so walk from the centre but it is an easy walk. Don't be put off by the moaners saying it is a drive away from the centre, they clearly are too used to using cars for everything. If you do book onto any excursions, you will be picked up from and returned to the hotel. It is also overlooking extensive sports facilities, including the local thermal pool. You'll be at the pool in 10 minutes or so and entry is only 550isk for an adult.

We hope to go back to Iceland next year and this hotel will be my first choice.
