“Perfect in every regard”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

Extremely welcoming staff, gorgeous layout and fixtures, perfectly central location but wonderfully quiet, and a scrumptious breakfast every morning. Thanks to everyone at Kvosin for their warm hospitality and a perfect stay!

The hotel is excellent and the service was outstanding. It is located in the heart of Reykjavik and walking distance of the major attraction points of the city. The rooms are cozy, clean and well equipped. The only complaint that i would have is that the curtains let pass some light and that is a bit of a problem in June when the sun is up 24 hrs. I would recommended this hotel to any of my friends and relatives.

Dear Juan Sebastian

We are thrilled that you took the time to write this nice review, and of course happy that you liked your stay. Yes, I know, the midnight sun can be bothersome for newcomers and it's hard to keep it all out. So be sure to visit us again in the wintertime when there's no sun to protect against, -only pretty northern lights!

We spent hours tracking down the right place to stay and thankfully our research was spot on! This delightful hotel is in the heart of the city opposite the Cathedral (more a village church) and next door to the Parliament (more a well designed town hall). We could walk everywhere. The rooms are quite small but well equipped the only quibble being the storage space but hey you couldn't have everything. The staff are absolutely brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is in the café next door which hums from locals meeting for breakfast. Clearly they have addressed previous comments about how much food there is if you turn up late by actually plating a set cold meal which is advertised in your bedroom and then offering a choice of two hot items from an imaginative list. We stayed Sunday to Thursday so missing any of the downtown noise that apparently is a feature of the week-end but this hotel, the city and the country was more than we ever thought it could be.

Room Tip: Each room has a well equipped small kitchen and fridge draw so don't be afraid to bring your own...

I'll Keep it brief. Nice Hotel, Church bell goes off right outside your windows often, Windows (small and not sound proof) need to be open because there is NO air conditioning on this property. It doesn't get really hot but with humidity in June it needs air conditioning. Service was great especially the overnight girl there on our arrival (3 am our time).

Room Tip: Ask for one of the new rooms that do not face the church. When we stayed there it was not a choice...

We really enjoyed our stay at Kvosin. Great location and really nice breakfast with excellent pain chocolates and eggs cooked to order. It was a great way to start the day. The hotel is very centrally located and did not hear any noise from the streets at night. I would like to have a curtain over the glass front door of our unit as in June it is light 24 hours per day.

Room Tip: We had room 101 with a full kitchen for those interested in eating in.

Dear glenroy71

Thank you for your wonderful review! I'm happy that you enjoyed the hotel and the breakfast. And I totally acknowledge your words about the midnight sun. This door opens inward, unlike all the other doors, to cater to the needs of those in wheelchairs, and therefore could not be fitted with a curtain. I'm sorry to hear that the sanded windows weren't darkening enough.

Hope you visit us again some day!

Family of four - quad room (the "Bjork" room. Fantastic experience in every respect. The staff were superb, the room was lovely. Beds comfortable. Spotless. Terrific location.

We loved it there. Very expensive, though, so could only afford one night. Wished we could have stayed for a week!

Kvosin Downtown is situated in a perfect location just minutes from everything in Reykjavik. It is perfect for people who like to walk everywhere, yet it is a block or so off the main nightlife area so we really didn't find noise to be an issue (and our room was in the front of the hotel facing the street). The front desk staff couldn't have been better--- they were all very cool people, extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful with restaurant recommendations and any other advice you need.

It is worth noting that the hotel doesn't have its own parking, so if you have a car (which I strongly recommend if you are a do it yourself type traveler) you will have to park on the street. Don't worry though, this is not a problem as there are plenty of parking spots around the hotel. The street parking in Reykjavik is divided into zones - P1, P2, P3, and P4---- with P1 being the most expensive. The spots directly in front of the hotel are P1, but this is only the equivalent of roughly $18/day for a full day, and you only have to pay if you are parked during 10:00 and 18:00 and it is free on Sundays. You pay at a machine and put the receipt on your dash board, and the machines let you pay for days in advance if you plan to leave your car there for awhile. If you really want to save money, the P2 and P3 zones are very close by (5 minute walk) and the cost drops by a few dollars each zone away that you go. Lastly, the guy at the front desk also told us that if you don't pay for parking (or just simply forget), the ticket is actually cheaper than the full day of parking. This happened to us (we forgot), and the ticket was around $14 and can be paid at the bank around the corner, or you can pay it at the airport when you leave. It probably isn't worth saving $4 to have to deal with the ticket (although it was remarkably easy) unless you are competing for the title of the world's cheapest traveler.

Overall I would strongly recommend Kvosin Downtown!

Dear laxslc.

Now that is one helpful review for our other (potential) guests! Yes, having your own car is definitely recommendable, as it makes you free to see whatever you want at your own pace and practice the ancient Icelandic art of "chasing the weather". When Icelanders go on holiday in their own country they usually don't decide upfront where they're going and just chase the good weather, driving to which ever place which has the best weather.

Thank you for your parking tips and your kind words. See you soon, I hope!
