Description: A five story concrete building that once housed offices on the upper floors and a metalwork company on the ground floor, now is the home of restaurant The Steakhouse on the ground floor, the four floors above are now apartments. The old harbor area of Reykjavik has in the last couple of years, changed in to a real gem where various cuisines, museums and arts and crafts have replaced the metalworks and fisheries. The newest addition is STEIKHÚSIÐ, which simply means „The Steak House”. The name is a deliberately this simple and descriptive, the aim is to be the only steakhouse you think of after the first visit. The heart of Steikhúsið is the coal oven from Mibrasa and the soul is our own way of tendering meat for at least 28 days. Those who seek for something purely Icelandic won’t be disappointed, Steikhúsið also caters to those who want the best of Icelandic lamb and fish.

We went for dinner on our last night here and had truly amazing tenderloin steaks with two sides and a sauce. The service was good and the food was reasonably priced. Highly recommended for meat lovers.

Attended with family & ordered the 28 day aged ribeye steak... Let's cut (no pun intended! See below) to the chase.

Tough, sinewy, difficult to cut, let alone chew!

To find out the grand total for two, was the equivalent to just short of £100 (Each having a starter, main & a couple of beers) was the final nail in the coffin! Steak with that price tag & write up should melt in the mouth, not give you jaw ache!

Give it a miss... And go the fish n' chips shop next door!

A business partner of mine invited me out for dinner at this place and in short deals were sealed! Great atmo, great food, great service. Thank you - will be back soon!

We ate here having seen the reviews on trip advisor and having driven past thought it looked nice. We walked in at 8.30pm on Friday night assuming there wouldn't be a table but they managed to accommodate us and i'm do glad they did. The service was excellent, decor and interior is really lovely, typically trendy but really cosy and romantic. The food was excellent, some unusual dishes (typical for Iceland) but beautifully cooked and presented. The steak was one of the best I've ever eaten and the sweet potato chips were gorgeous although unusually cooked! It isn't cheap but is the same as you'd pay in London for a lovely meal. Would definitely recommend.
