Description: A five story concrete building that once housed offices on the upper floors and a metalwork company on the ground floor, now is the home of restaurant The Steakhouse on the ground floor, the four floors above are now apartments. The old harbor area of Reykjavik has in the last couple of years, changed in to a real gem where various cuisines, museums and arts and crafts have replaced the metalworks and fisheries. The newest addition is STEIKHÚSIÐ, which simply means „The Steak House”. The name is a deliberately this simple and descriptive, the aim is to be the only steakhouse you think of after the first visit. The heart of Steikhúsið is the coal oven from Mibrasa and the soul is our own way of tendering meat for at least 28 days. Those who seek for something purely Icelandic won’t be disappointed, Steikhúsið also caters to those who want the best of Icelandic lamb and fish.

As expected, being s steak house, the steak was incredible. Actually, the best steak I have had in years. We tried a few other places in the city for steak, and this one was by far the best. Now that the obvious is out of the way, the restaurant is very nicely set up with a spacious design and very good lighting. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well. The menu was very extensive for a steak house including multiple other entrees, sides, and sauces. If you enjoy coleslaw, you have to try it here. Honestly, even if you don’t, this place may change your mind. Everything, including the mushrooms, was cooked to perfection. Both the pepper sauce and the red wine sauce were flavorful but not overpowering. OH! I almost forgot! The spare ribs! So messy, so tender, absolutely a must. After 11 days of nothing but touring, eating, and drinking, and taking all things into consideration, I think this may be my favorite restaurant in Reykjaviik.

Ended up here looking at the feedback for another restaurant and think we made the right choice.
Good atmosphere. Good service but the head waiter a character who made our meal potentially better with his recommendations.
Beware of eyes bigger than - my partner had ribs to start (big starters portion!) and then lamb which he was devastated he couldn't finish as it was 'divine'! I had no starter and a 250g steak that melted in the mouth. The three times fried chips were delicious. The green salad flavoursome and light.
Desert - oh wow - the warm chocolate and caramel cake! A m a z i n g ... I didn't really have the room but forced myself as it was sooooo worth it - light, fluffy, simply delicious!

Been here three times, always excelent service and good but not that expencive vines. Food is good too, one time a bit too salty steak for my taste, but perfect the second time. Go for the ribeye steak with bernaise and the licorice cheese cake is a must!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Reykjavik. The steaks are always tender and juicy. The appetizers are quite tasty, I recommend the Guillemot. The staff is friendly and very helpful if you have any questions.

We had the "Winter Feast", and my goodness, they weren't joking!
The starters arrived on a huge wooden platter...2 tempura battered lobster meat with an orange sauce, 2 pork ribs with a light barbecue sauce, and 2 spring rolls with guillemot (yes, the sea bird!) This was each, mind you! They were all delicious, and when the main course arrived.....The rib-eye steak was cooked to perfection...cutting like a knife through butter and the little basket of potato wedges with the Bernaise sauce...very, very nice. We braced ourselves for the pudding even though we were already stuffed, and oh, my goodness...I've never tasted anything like it! It was an individual chocolate and caramel sponge baked in a small, metal tin, topped with Chantilly cream, raspberry coulis and little red berries...Heavenly!
The atmosphere in the restaurant was quietly busy, and the service was efficient and pleasant. The toilets were clean and you could watch the chefs at work if you so desired as the kitchen is open to view. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Reykjavik, but be careful, it is very expensive...the Winter Feast x 2 plus 1 beer and 1 pepsi totalled about £90! It was worth it though for a special night out with the most delicious food.
