Was not looking forward to the "surprise" menu and neither was my dining partner however, the meal and the experience was excellent. Highly recommend !

We had the three course surprise meal. It was an amazing experience. Every ingredient possible comes from Iceland. The staff explains the meal....delightfully entertains with descriptions of the food. The tastes were amazing. I must comment on the price. At first blush the 6900 kronas per person seems a lot. When you convert to dollars and realize that tip and service are included...this is actually a bargain meal. GO. GO. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS AMAZING TREAT.

Very nice place and staff. You get a 'suprise' 3 or 5 courses but are asked if you dislike or can't eat anything.
The wine list was excellent and reasonably priced. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary but the staff were lovely and it is very good value compared to elsewhere. The only negative for us was a constant dialogue from the staff about where every tiny element of each dich came from or who picked it. That was fine and interesting in the beginning but became funny, then intrusive and verged on anoying by the end. I would still recommend it though but be ready to say "Enough already!"

Strolling down Laugavegur at lunchtime I and my husband decided to drop in at this small but nice restaurant.
We ordered the dish of the day consisting of lamb-meat and vegetable broth (an Icelandic dish "kjötsúpa") for starter and grilled salmon filet with salad, potatoes and dressing as main dish. Included was also homemade bread. The waitress gave us information about the origin of the meat, fish, vegetable and salad, everything Icelandic except the lemon. The service was very good.
The price was about 7.90 GDP per person, service included.

This is a fairly small but smart restaurant in the centre of Reykjavik, with a strong emphasis (more than others) on Icelandic food and with the quirk that you cannot choose your food - you simply choose 3 or 5 courses and, subject to what anything you won't eat, they bring you a selection.

We opted for the 3 course menu, which was in reality appetiser, starter, amouse-bouche, main and dessert, and it was a good but not gutbusting amount of food. The waitress went to great lengths to describe the origin of the ingredients and they were all very good - different enough to be unique but not oddball. We spent about £85 between two, but it would be easy to spend much more if you go for the 5 course option and/or wine pairings.

We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for posh and well presented Icelandic food - probably our second favourite after Sjavargrillid. Small place, so quiet in December but I would imagine busy in the Summer.
