“lovely break in a great hotel”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

I stayed at the Klopp back in November with my mum and a friend. We got a package deal online and just wanted somewhere central, relatively nice and fairly cheap to use as a base whilst we explored Iceland.

The best thing about this hotel is the location! Located right in the centre of Reykjavik it was only a minutes walk from the nearest bars, restaurants and shops. We ate out every night and all the restaurants we went to were within walking distance. We also had a hire car for the duration of our 4 night stay which we managed to park for free on the road directly outside the hotel every night.

When we first arrived and got to our room we found we had been checked into a double- I was sharing with my mum- despite having booked a twin. The room was very small, quite a tight fit for two. We weren't too fussed about sharing or having a tiny room but we enquired at reception anyway seeing as we had booked a twin and they moved us straight away. We had a much more spacious room with a lovely bathroom.

Our room looked onto the street below and I do remember there being live music coming from the bar opposite on the Friday and Saturday nights. I'm pretty sure it was Jazz and was definitely nothing offensive! (Not to me at least!) We were out late most nights eating and the music wasn't too intrusive so me and my mum didn't mind at all. Plus I think things like that are almost to be expected when staying in a Hotel in the centre of a city!? Just my opinion.

Breakfast was great- continental buffet style but that was to be expected and it was more than enough for us. The girl working during breakfast was continually replenishing the cereals/juices/milk so we were never short.

Overall the Hotel was great- clean, tidy, friendly staff and some great art work in the lobby!!

Would definitely recommend this Hotel to anyone planning a visit to Reykjavik.

Thanks for a great stay! :)

As soon as we walked in the door the problems began. After a few hours and several phone calls to Expedia we were good to go. In the beginning the staff were unaccommodating, after our problem was solved the just average. The hotel itself is in a good location, 1 block away from the main shopping street in Reykjavik. Everything could be reached within 10 minutes of walking. The room was a tad small for 3 guests, but we made do. The room was cleaned daily, but never any fresh linens. When you take a shower, water gets everywhere! There is no barrier on the floor so make sure you keep everything off the ground. Overall it's a nice hotel, i'd stay there again.

There was a city park next to the hotel where kids were playing music until 11:30 at night-couldn't sleep. We were given the option of another room on the other side of the building. That room overlooked a bar that was loud too. The staff was nice but couldn't do anything to elevate the noise. Wouldn't stay there again. Stayed at center hotel plaza-that was very nice.

We stayed two nights this month and found the room to be perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable. We had quiet nights (the stay did not include a weekend) and the breakfast was very good. The shower, which is separated from the bathroom floor by only a small lip and a curtain, did get the floor wet no matter how careful we were, so a better enclosure would be recommended. The location can't be beat (although just down the street away from town are a series of adult stores that ultimately posed no concern at all). Staff was pleasant and helpful in all interactions.

Room Tip: Beware courtyard noise.

We stayed here as part of an Icelandair package and really enjoyed it. It can be a little noisy on Friday nights as there is a bar across the street. Breakfast is good and free. As you come in off the night flight you can check in early for a fee and eat breakfast before heading out to explore.

Stayed here for 3 consecutive nights in Sept 2011. Close to all the downtown attractions, restaurants & shopping & on shuttle route. Clean, comfortable rooms; helpful staff; great breakfast with cereals, meats, etc., and amazing geothermal heated shower water.

We had read the review on noise, but never imagined it this bad. Although we had requested a 'quiet' room ahead of our stay we were given a second floor room directly facing a courtyard where loud loud music is pumped through the building for hours and hours. It is realy bad, these two days. Unless you're into metallic rock. This is really a bummer and the hotel staff are helpless.,furnishing their guests with earplugs. Rooms are pretty small. Otherwise, five days a week, this is a nice place, but my ratings take everything into concideration.

Room Tip: STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL, FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS. We asked for a quiet room but they gave us the no...

Deaer Lightfoot11,

Thank you for much for staying with us at Centerhotel Klopp and thank you for your valuable feedback from your stay.

We are really glad to hear you enjoyed the hotel, the facilities and the staff.

We are very sorry that you were affected by noise during the weekend you stayed with us. During the weekend you stayed with us there was a public concert in an outside park that played music until about 10pm both nights.

In the downtown are there is nightlife on the weekends and sometimes public happenings as well as festivities organized by the local authorities. We of course encourage our guests to enjoy and partake in the festivities if they have interest to do so.

We do sincerely apologize if this affected your stay. We certainly hope to welcome you back to Iceland and Centerhotels in the future.

Very best regards,

Eva Jósteinsdóttir
