“Great location, spoilt by a few basics”
Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

Have just returned from a four night break at this hotel. As other reviewers have noted it is in a fantastic location and only about 5 minutes walk from the Main Street, with lots of restaurants. Our room was a fair size and has a sofa where you could read or watch TV, which was great. However, it was spoilt by the fact that the sofa was grubby and had a great big grease stain on the seat. Also, the lighting leaves a lot to be desired. The main light on the ceiling was a 3-spot halogen light and two of the bulbs were not working on arrival. I asked for it to be fixed; one was replaced and I was told that the other one couldn't be fixed for another 2 days - incidentally It never was fixed. Also there was tea and coffee facilities but no kettle to boil the water! I also asKed for a kettle, and was told I would have to wait until the morning as the kettle had just broken that day (Friday). On the saturday the kettle did not appear but I had to go and ask for it. Other people have commented on the quality of service in this hotel and I therefore found it rather lacking.

I do agree with other reviewers that this hotel is a bit shabby which is a shame as the locatioN is so good.

My partner and I stayed at the Fossehotel Baron for 4 nights last week as part of an Icelandair package. We did upgrade to a sea view room for a little extra, and for this the room also included a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries.

If you are looking for a good, comfortable, clean hotel (3* hotel) maybe a little shabby around the edges, which is in a great location and good value for money then would highly recommend the Fosshotel Baron. The hotel is located within a couple of minutes’ walk from the main high street, shopping areas, restaurants and also the sea front.

The reception staff, were very welcoming/friendly (genuinely so) and were really helpful in their advice re local restaurant recommendations. Breakfast at the hotel was great, a wide choice of breakfast items (hot and cold) including a do it yourself ‘waffle maker’.

Really pleasantly surprised. A good find and would be more than happy to go back and stay there again.

Just returned from a 4day break. Stayed with friends at this hotel. Staff very helpful. Breakfast room was good but a little crowded sometimes. Good selection but perhaps the toaster needs more capacity. Rooms were comfortable but would agree about storage space from a previous review.good location for city centre and attractions.

Stayed here for the weekend. Really well located within easy walk of all the main city attractions. Rooms were clean and comfortable, breakfast was really good, with a wide and varied choice available. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and were only to willing to offer advice and information. A party of 8 adults and we would certainly use this hotel again as a base for exploring Iceland and Reykjavick.

Just returned from Iceland and stayed here 5 days (9-14 Oct) and all in all found the Baron well suited to our needs.
Rooms were adequate in size and beds were comfortable but would have liked to have had some drawers in which to store our clothes though at least there was a wardrobe. Is it the norm in Scandinavian countries to have no drawers?
Bathroom was okay though very little shelf space and if you are travelling with your other (female) half you find no room to place your (male) accessories other than in your wash bag.
Also in our room the sink was rather small and if you were not careful you could bang your head on the small shelf over it.
The liquid soap dispenser seemed like a recent addition and was badly placed so you got soap on the toilet roll and also on the floor.
Breakfast was adequate though I would have liked to have some smoked salmon and a variation of the (2) hot selections along with soft boiled eggs would have been nice along with a more efficient toaster.
The self serve buffet room was a bit on the small side so quickly got congested since a lot of people were booked on the tours which all pick up around 08:30.
We found the staff all very helpful and the location of the hotel very convenient and would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a supplement for rooms with a sea view. A word of caution - beware the wooden...

The hotel is in a great location, close to the city centre and with sea views from some of the higher floors. Unlike some of the more modern, larger hotels, most of the interesting parts of Reykjavik are within easy walking distance. Not the biggest rooms, but adequate. The staff were friendly and keen to help with any enquiries. TV reception in the room was limited.

Room Tip: Room 502 has good sea views.

The hotel was near the waterfront and a couple of minutes from the main high street, about 20 mins walk from the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was very basic in all aspects but was clean and warm. The breakfast was decent but the serving area very cramped. As we didn't spend much time in the room, it wasn't much of a problem.
