“Good value, great location, mediocre room”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

I spent three nights here with my wife as part of an IcelandAir Northern Lights package. The location is great, right in the centre of Reykjavik within easy walking distance to the main sights. Yet there was no problem with noise.
Our room was small with a sloping ceiling at one end, It had no windows, just a couple of skylights. It was clean though and the furnishings were fine. There was a thermostat hidden behind the bed.
The staff were helpful and efficient.
There's free parking, however this could fill up on occasions.
The complimentary breakfasts were a Scandinavian buffet, mostly cold with a couple of hot options. However the buffet had a wide range of options and overall the breakfasts were very good.

Graded as 3 star it is a short walk from the main sights of the town being no more than 10-15 minutes from the Old Harbour area. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good enough to set you up for the day.
Our room lacked drawer space and, somewhat of an awkward lack of table level electrical sockets meant the kettle had to go on the floor for a swift brew. There is a 24 hour supermarket within a 2 minute walk. WiFi free in the lobby but chargeable in your room.
All in all a sound base for an interesting city. The hotel charges 6% commission on its bank based exchange rates.
Iceland is expensive with beer at £5 per pint a single spirit at £6.50 and a glass of wine at £6 at the hotel bar.

Reykjavik isn't a huge city but many of the more upmarket hotels are located some way from the real centre. The Baron is ideally located, a couple of minutes from the central shopping/dining area, and all the excursions will pick you up from the hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast pretty good. The room was basic but served its purpose. Considering the price, an excellent hotel, and I'll definitely stay here again if I - as I hope - return to the stunning Iceland.

We spent a week staying at this clean and comfortable budget hotel. It's location is good for exploring Reykjavik. We found the staff very pleasant and always helpful. The breakfasts are tremendous - hard to beat. Our room was basic but clean, warm and fully equipped. Some reports for this hotel have been critical but we found it hard to fault at this price and recommend it highly. It's great value for money.

Booked through an Icelandair package, initial views were that I was (yet again) getting ripped-off in a scruffy 'single' room, with hardly any window, and no room to move. This is not an Icelandic problem, hotels worldwide, charge odious 'single supplements' then put you in an inferior cupboard with a bed in it. However, as the cold tap would not turn on I got put in another room - fortunately a spacious double room, with reasonable views over the coastline. So be vary wary of which room you end up in.
Generally a pleasant hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, wonderfull choice for a good breakfast, even when you need to leave at 0430hrs. The bar is fairly poor with little choice, but plenty of good bars close by.
A few minutes walk to main shopping area and harbour area.

Room Tip: Avoid a single cupboard with a bed in it.

Long weekend trip to Reykjavik on an Iceland Air package to include Whale watching, Northern Lights and Blue Lagoon. The hotel is basic but warm and comfortable and well located. Be warned that whale watching and Northern Lights can be very under-whelming. The Blue Lagoon was great - I recommend a package which includes the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon.

Hotel staff are very helpful

first thing I noticed on arrival was the Tripadvisor sticker,it was not a mistake .Friendly staff, great breakfast which they even served at 04-30am when we had to get a bus to the airport, comfy bed and adequate room for the price which by Icelandic standards was very reasonable. Also centrally located
