“Really good food and nice cosmopolitan atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

We were staying in the hotel above and ate here as we had heard good things...we were not disappointed and the food was lovely (especially the fish of the day which was perfect) and the moules frites serving was enormous so whilst it was a pricey as everything in Iceland, it was worth it as the atmosphere was good and the servings huge! Many thanks

“Excellant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

Snaps was recommended to me by a friend who had dinned 3 weeks earlier. Whilst the tables are very tightly spaced the food and service was excellent. It is a small space, so expect to remove some layers whilst there, it's quite warm.
The food tasted great. We were a party of 7 and they understood to serve my 4yrs daughter dinner with the starters, she tucked in to the belly pork open sandwich - it was so good I was told to stop picking at it! French Onion Soup with the gooey cheese toast, red fish with creamed barley..... it just got better. This was our first night in Reykjavik and it set us up for the weekend.
I did book in advance by email as we were a large table and it was valentines night.
Definitely one to try - go on give it go!

“Decent food - terrible service!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

THere were 7 in our party for an early dinner at 5:15. We were asked if we had a reservation, and when replying in the negative we were asked if we could complete our meal in an hour. We agreed that we could as we had read in the"Reyykjavik Grapevine" that this was the "BestGodDamn Restaurant in Reykjavik" and we wanted to see for ourselves. Thefirst thing the waitress told us was the special - pan fried spotted catfish, as it would be quick. Whenasked about the appetizer of French onionsoup she said it wasreally more of a meal. Two in our groupchose it anyways (it really was phenomenal inboth size and flavor) but it was served at the same time as their entrée. My husband and I each chose a sandwich as we preyferred not to be rushed, the club sandwich and croque monsieur -good but neither were remarkable. The spotted catfish was said to be good by our companions. Two guests had the lamband they said it was tender and good tasting. The french fries were okay - similar to string fries served in the U.S. At exactly 6:15 the waitress asked if we would like to move to a couple of small tables near the bar for coffee and dessert, although those eating the lamb (served after the other 5 had received their meals) were not quite finished.the service to this point was minimal--the waitresses did not make eye contact and we had to ask for more bread, ketchup (for fries) and more KKwater more than once. When we moved to the bar area we asked for a dessert menu we were told it was on the paper placemat in front of us andshe took off! 20 minutes wentby and she did not come back for our dessert order until someonegot up andwent to the bar andasked them to send someone over. The coffee was strong and excellent. The creme Brule was prepared correctly and was said to be delicious. Perhaps having such a good review went to their head - their are many restaurants in Reykjavic who serve excellent food combined with excellent service-try those!

“Nice Atmosphere, Good Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2014

As this was the restaurant attached to my hotel, I ate here frequently. The fresh fish daily was tasty and very fresh, the house wine good, and the staff nice. Upscale and low key at the same time.

“Exquisite calves liver”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014 via mobile

Stayed near by and had read about Snaps in the Reykjavik grapevine. So when I needed a late dinner the decission was easy. I had an ok salmon tartar for starter and then one of the best rustique calves liver dishes ever. I sent my compliments to the kitchen and even the waitres was happy with the feedback. When visiting again some weeks later they had changed the menu for christmas, so I did not get to taste the same dish again, but I was being told that it would be back on the menu once the hollidays was over.
