My daughter and I visited during extended hours on a Thursday evening during Christmas week. I am fairly confident we were the only visitors in the museum. The collection was fairly limited but pleasant, with a large number of interesting works by Erro, who I gather was one of the best known Icelandic artists of the last century. There were also the results of a national drawing contest, reflecting wildly divergent talents. All in all, a worthwhile visit. There is a meaningful admission charge.

This was interesting...mostly modern and unusual art forms.
But worth the trip since it is manageable and different.
Go there!

Some great drawings by Erro, but a lot of the abstract art was too abstract for its own good.

A delightful space, with surprises around every corner. And, there's a comfy cafe, as well as a beautiful art library with a great view through the window of the old harbor. A museum shop stocked with well-designed gifts. Perfect place for a rainy day or, in the winter, a warm hour or two.

The museum is situated near the harbour, really nice location. I usually go there for the great soup bar they have on the 2nd store... really pretty view, and some of the very best soups I've ever had. Not expensive, and great service :)

I end up checking the exhibitions, which so far have all been interesting, and the museum shop, which has a good selection of books on icelandic art and many interesting objects for sale.

Well worth a visit for a meal or leisure if you're in town!
