Great Location!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 13, 2019via mobile
My husband and I stayed three nights at the Marina hotel. The rooms are simply but comfortably appointed in Scandinavian style. Everything was clean and working well.

Bathroom is a little quirky in that is is a corner of the room with frosted glass partitions dividing it from the room. But bathroom itself was fine and shower great.

The hotel is well located in the harbor area. There are a lot more shops and restaurants in the area now than when we visited four years ago.

Breakfast buffet offers a lot of options. The one dinner we had in the hotel (group dinner) was average. I wouldn’t choose to eat dinner there with so many good options steps away.

Staff was friendly and helpful. However, the hotel is very poorly set up to check people in efficiently. On our second checkin at the end of our trip, we had to wait half an hour to check in because of systems issues and their not having adequate staff.

Besides this, we had a good experience.

This is a nice hotel, decorated in that slightly Norwegian/IKEA style you’ll recoginize around most of Iceland.
The room was comfortable and bright. Instead of trying to hide the fact that they are right next to he airport they highlight the view of airplanes taking off and landing.
The floor was bare as opposed to carpet...which was really nice.
The bed is comfortable...with two comforters on the bed. This is an AMAZING concept that I am stealing for myself. I sleep with a blanket thief.
Anyway...pretty rooms, nice bathroom.
There is a small fridge. Shelves for clothes and a place to hang some shirts. A few drawers would have been awesome.
The hotel has a buffet.
Breakfast is good, but the scrambled eggs are watery. Nice options. Bacon. Potatoes. Lots of fish. Oatmeal and fruit. Healthy options.
Dinner is fishtopia!!! Lots of dessert options. Endless coffee and tea. Super expensive.
The hotel has a pool. It’s nice...but it closes so early. It would have been great to take a swim around 10pm. An early swim would have been nice as well.
It would be nice if they mixed up the buffet every couple of days. Hash browns instead of cooked potatoes, sausage instead of bacon, omelette vs scrambled eggs etc.
I would definitely stay here again.

When my family and I had originally booked a room at another hotel. When we arrived the hotel told me they were full. Icelandair Marina was our fallback. Couldn't have been happier. It was even better than the original hotel. Icelandair Marina is a perfect sized hotel. Not too big or too small. Good vibe. If I ever go back and stayed in Reykjavik, I would only stay here.

Room tip: They have rooms that face the harbor. I liked it. The view is not glamorous but I think it's a glimpse at a Reykjavik seaport.

We chose this hotel for our one night stay in Reykjavik, the location was all right , the family room was not , for the first time we stayed in a hotel room which was at ground level and felt like basement as the adjacent road was one level higher , it was weird to look up and see people walking and cars buzzing from the glass windows , all three of us felt claustrophobic.

My daughter enjoyed the loft bed was the positive , because of the short nature of our stay we did not enjoy the other amneties so can not comment

Underwhelmed will be my overall assessment

We had reservations based on other reviews. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel lobby was spacious and fun.

Our room was situated away from the restaurant and bar area so we did not get the noise that most people complained about. However, this hotel does not have air conditioning which meant we had to open the windows. The street and foot traffic was loud but not too bad that we lost sleep. Our room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was well stocked with towels and everything you may need.

The entrance to the hotel is tricky to find and they do not have parking. The main entrance is closest to marina (not on the main street). Concierge said there is a gravel lot that we can park our car. It is a short walk from the main entrance of the building.

Dear Emnem216,

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your positive feedback. We are glad to know that you we managed to exceed your expectations. On the other hand, I just want to point out that we do provide an electric fan and it is available upon request at the reception. Furthermore, we don't have our designated parking lot but on the left side of the hotel entrance there is a big gravel and it is use as parking are and free of charge 24/7. We hope to welcome you again.

Recently in Iceland and, while in Reykjavik, stayed at this hotel. Staff very helpful and courteous, clean and comfortable rooms. Only downside is location. While it's close to many things, there are many more hotels with better locations (city center, opera house, university,etc.). Parking less than ideal but reasonably close and free. Would be 5 stars were it not for the slightly off the grid location. Very comfortable.
