Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina

The Marina Hotel is lovely to see- very eclectic in its décor - beautifully so. The staff is great and the hotel's small restaurant is also great in every way - the breakfast buffet, the food and the staff couldn't be better.
It's a smaller hotel - Icelanders will be at the bar - but mostly it's for those tourists who are looking for a smaller, slightly less expensive hotel - and it is both smaller and somewhat less expensive. But also flawless - except for those frosted walls that comprise the bathroom that can be found in 3 and 4 star European hotels. Some want more privacy than those frosted walls and open to the ceiling bathrooms provide. They're rather 'afterthought' bathrooms - a portion of the room is walled off with frosted glass.
If that kind of bathroom bothers you, this is not the hotel for you. If you'd like to save some money or if you want a Great Location, then this is the hotel for you. The Marina is walking distance to just about everything - great restaurants, a volcano museum, the shopping district, fishing boats, and whale watching.

My wife and I stayed here 3/2-3/5 and loved it. The staff is great, the atmosphere is both trendy and cool while still feeling warm and homey - terrific combination. We stayed in a larger room overlooking the marina and really enjoyed it. Everything was spotless. We also ate at the hotel - breakfast every day and dinner once - which, while as pricey as everywhere else in Iceland (think NYC prices) was delicious and interesting. We plan on returning to Iceland and we have no desire to stay anywhere else. Short walk - less than 10min - to town and stunning view of the bay. We walked by many other in-town hotels I considered but I'm glad we picked this place as it made our whole trip nicer than if we had stayed in town.

Room Tip: We were only on the 2nd floor rather than the 3rd or 4th but the view of the bay was still wonderful...

If I had to choose two words to describe the rooms in this hotel, I would choose the word 'really' and the word 'small'. If I were further pressed to provide an additional two words, I would go with 'quite' and 'basic'. There you go.
Beyond the rooms, the hotel is fine. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the bar is quite trendy and is clearly popular in the evenings and the cocktails are very good.
Are you going to sweep anyone off their feet by bringing them here? Probably not.
Does it serve a purpose as a reasonably central base to explore Reykjavik and Iceland? Yes it does. Would I go back? There's no particular draw to this hotel so...no. But not in a particularly bad way, just in an indifferent way.

Just returned from our second stay at the Icelandair Marina. The fact that we selected it immediately when booking the Northern Lights Break says it all.
And so do most of the reviews on here - location, facilities, (upgraded) rooms, bar, staff etc. etc.
Again, we never saw the Northern Lights, so guess which hotel we'll be staying in next year ? !

Room Tip: An upgrade gets a view of the harbour and dry dock and also faces North, perfect if the lights show...

The Marina hotel is an amazing hotel in Reykjavik. We stayed for 6 nights in a Deluxe room and we were extremely happy. The room was clean and fresh and we had a great view of the harbour. The staff at reception are fantastic ambassadors for the hotel, as they are friendly and go out of their way to take care of their guests. A cool feature in the lobby was a train table for toddlers. The location was ideal, as it was very close to the centre of town and there were many restaurants close by. We will stay at this hotel again when we return to Iceland!!

A very comfortable hotel in a great location, overlooking the harbour. Easy walking distance to the centre of Reykjavik, excellent for a city break.

Rooms are very comfortable although bathrooms are compact to say the least! The addition of tea and coffee facilities would have left me with little to criticise.

Free parking for our hire car in hotel car park. This is quite small so could become an issue at peak periods I imagine.

The restaurant is also very good with an excellent choice at breakfast and good quality evening meals. The restaurant and bar are very popular with guests and locals so was busy but still maintained a comfortable atmosphere and not at all noisy.

There are loads of restaurants and bars close by so you won't be short of choice. Would definitely stay here again next time in Reykjavik

This hotel reminds me of my grandma's house. It's very homey and humble. They have a wonderful continental breakfast (HOWEVER- Don't get breakfast the first day you stay at the hotel, otherwise you have to pay $40 for it- learned this the hard way). The location is amazing, it's close to just about every main sight/restaurants/shopping/tour pick up spots in Reykjavik. Also, their website indicates you have to pay for the WIFI if you want to get it in your room, but I was able to get great signal from my room no problem. The only thing that's stopping me from giving this hotel 5 stars is, even though it's literally on the water and across from a beautiful volcano, it's blocked from room views because of the construction/boat repair building that is right next to the hotel. Surprisingly, the noise level wasn't anything to worry about.
