This is a great hotel, if you know what it is. Located in a recently rehabbed building in the Old Harbor area, the best description is quirky...in a good way. The rooms are quite small. We stayed in an attic room overlooking the Harbor. But right outside the hotel is a working shipyard. We found this interesting and a real plus but it is not the same as an ocean view hotel room on Miami Beach. The walls are thin and our next door neighbor was quite noisy. We were there in April during the week and there was very little outside noise. There is a translucent door on the bathroom which might be a little too intimate if you are sharing the room with a business colleague. This would be no problem for most couples with a more intimate relationship.

The breakfast buffet is a bit pricy but it is excellent and a good value. The bar is excellent and the, food is quite good as we ate in the hotel one evening.

The staff were helpful and pleasant.

The location is in walking distance from most of the city sights ( if you like to walk.)

In summary, we loved it but be prepared for a little quirky.

Room Tip: If possible, attic, water view would be best.

Interesting location in the old part of reykjavik, close to the harbour with a lot of different places to eat - some of the restaurants is of very high quality. You can also board a ship for a whale safari just houndred yards from the hotels main entrance.

The rooms are a little bit small, my (415 at fourth floor) was missing what I think is basic; chairs, cupboards etc. but had a giant tv, nice and comfortable bed and a large balcony, as most of the rooms in 4th floor.

Friendly staff. In Reykjavik things are well organized, and there's a lot of things to do. Most operators pick you up at the hotel, very practical.

Room Tip: Rooms at seaside at fourth floor is a little bit bigger than landside, and have a nice balcony. Inte...

A group of us stayed here for three nights on our recent stay in Reykjavik. The location is at the marina where all the tourist including us go to get the whale sightseeing boats. I would not say this is a great and beautiful location but at least the views away from the main road looked out to the mountains (and over the ugly marina yard).

Entrance to the lobby yields a modern, airy and what appears to be a new hotel. The lobby extends into a bar that was bustling at happy hour on Friday night with many locals. (They even wheel out a second bar due to the sheer volume of people drinking.)

Hotel staff are extremely courteous. The rooms though take a little used to getting around. The bathroom/shower room might be very efficient, but it is by far the smallest one I have ever been in anywhere in the world. There does not appear to be any queen or king beds and they just push two singles together. At least the mattresses where new and comfortable. Although our room faced towards the mountains which was a nice view (except looking over the marina yard) I suspect those facing the other direction to the street would be quite loud.

Breakfast was in its own room and was very, very good. Lots of local choices plus some traditional breakfast items. Nothing varies day from day so that gets a little boring. But still good food.

I cannot give this four stars--it simply does not compete with other four star hotels I have stayed in around the world, plus location is not four star. I rated it three but that almost seems unfair. I would have given it 3.5 if available.

Hi readers !
I chose this hotel carefully, as it was our first holiday overseas for sometime and I must say it didn't disappoint! The position is great, with local places to eat & drink, a few hundred yards from the main town, walking distance to the centre and bus stops, but with what felt like the peace and quiet of a rural location!
I upgraded to a 4th floor room directly facing the slipp dock, great, but it also has views over the harbour and vista towards the far mountains, which were also snow capped, during our stay, it cost approx £20 per night extra, but well worth it. The rooms are like living in an IKEA showroom, minimalist but still remaining cosy, glass sliding door didn't really present a problem, we put it down to an experience and kept the light off, to provide a minimum amount of privacy during teeth gritting times..... you know what I mean! However, no drawers, this was an inconvenience, it would have been nice to unpack everything and leave the suitcases alone during the 5 day trip, but unfortunately, we had to keep our underwear and T's in them and get them out when we needed them.
Rooms are small, why worry, the bathrooms are small, read the sign over the WC and get out of there, down to the bar.
Happy hour was brilliant and a bit of a bargain to be honest! 500 for a pint, I personnally preferred the classic beer and 500 for a chardonnay, very very reasonable, these double in cost after happry hour, by the way. On a few nights the bar staff fitted us up with a couple of small glasses with ice and a slice and we'd drift back to the room to drink a duty free glass of spirit's, whilst sitting on our balcony(only 4th floor has these!), wrapped up in a cosy blanket looking out at the comings and goings over the harbour and panorama, checking out what the workmen had progressed on the ships that day! Breakfasts were good, juice, fruit, cereals, porridge, skyr(yum yum) and a small glass of what the waiter called veal juice, this is horrible and I firmly believed it tasted more like liquid paraffin! but there were also hot dishes, albeit strange mixtures for breakfast, toast, delicious bread, jam and wait for it....... smoked and cured salmon. No problems with breakfasts, theres something for everyone, unless you wanted your full english, that is!
The beds were comfortable, with separate duvets for the bride and myself.
Theres a nice sitting area downstairs in the entrance with a real flame fire and a cocktail bar that is barrowed in of an evening. If you do decide to stay here, can I suggest that instead of turning right out the door towards the town, take the left, down to the sea and harbour, it really is lovely down there and as you move away from the street lights, the greater the chance of seeing the northern lights, yes you can actually see them from there, in the right conditions, ask the staff for details on where to go and how to do it! The TV has this channel which takes you around the various webcams of the island, which was fascinating, together with a time lapse video over a few days of the dry dock/slipp.
So, what could be improved, well, drawers for a start and air freshener in the bathroom/come sliding door arrangement, which doesn't fit very closely to the walls/ceiling! Its absolutey fine and I will be stopping here again on my next visit!

Room Tip: 4th Floor harbour side!

We stayed on the 4th floor of this hotel. It is well located, with free parking. However, no free wifi. Disappointing. The bathroom situation is the worst part of staying here. My husband actually went down to the lobby to use the lobby bathrooms to have some privacy. We are close with each other, but having glass sliding doors leaves nothing to the imagination when someone is going to the bathroom. I was fine with the small room size, but there has to be something they can do about the doors on the bathroom and the lack of privacy.

I reccomend purchasing the breakfast. It was pricey, but extremely convenient, and very tasty. Great way to start our trip to Iceland. I recommend the hotel.

Stayed here with family of 4, excellent location, clean, friendly and we got interconnecting rooms which was a bonus. Rooms were small but find and we didn't spend much time in them. Internet access is an additional charge but there was a free computer in the lobby

We stayed one night in this hotel and would certainly return here.

The ambiance and interior are very nice, cosy and hip. The bar in the evening is the place to be in Reykjavik. Great drinks, lovely people from all sorts, though trendy in general.

Room Tip: Do check out the restaurant and the bar in this hotel.
