This new downtown hotel belongs to the Icelandair Hotels chain. This hotel is located in the Marina(Harbor) area of Reykjavik and is under a ten minute walk to most of all the downtown attractions. The downtown square, restaurants, night clubs, Harpa(Opera house), Laugavegur street are a stone throws away. The breakfast is one of the best out of all the hotels I've been to in Reykjavik! This would be my first choice if selecting a Icelandair Hotel in Reykjavik.

We were there in late October for 2 nights and found this hotel to be an excellent value. Front desk staff were super helpful, especially Johanna. They contacted a couple tour companies for us and got us booked for Blue Lagoon in an hour and Golden Circle tour the next morning -- and this was in the off-season. We loved the quirky humourous design incorporating Icelandic motifs. Rooms were the expected size, but maximized the use of space and storage so it did not feel cramped. We had an attic room with a queen bed on an upper floor, with a balcony overlooking the marina. It was surprisingly quiet, even though ships were in drydock being worked on. The hotel bar was lively and buzzing even though it was mid-week, with a stylish 30-40something crowd of both locals and tourists. We noshed on small plates and admired the crowd over drinks before heading out for dinner. There are lots of eating choices nearby, and it was easy walking distance to the opera house and shopping. Gym was small, clean, new, and they provide water and clean towels. We had a great stay and would definitely return.

We loved this hotel and would stay here again!

Location: Very centrally located, about 10 minutes walking to the beginning of the main square and shopping streets. There are plenty of restaurants around within walking distance, and everything in the city center can be easily reached on foot.

Hotel: The lobby is very inviting! As soon as you walk in, there is a small fire with a seating area around it which makes it very cozy and warm, which is nice if you've been outside in winter! The reception desk staff during the daytime was very friendly and extremely helpful. They are great when you need information about excursions or things to do. Also great that they can book a car easily and quickly for you at a rental car place located 5 minutes away by car, they'll come and pick you up at the hotel and when you are done with the car, you can leave the ky at the front desk! Very convenient. Hotel guests also get a discount which is nice. Next to the reception desk, you can get snacks and coffee, tea, etc etc. The bar is VERY lively--in fact, it seems to be THE place in town for locals so it gets extremely busy as does the restaurant. We arrived on a Tuesday and had dinner in the hotel--great food and service--but the restaurant was booked out for all other nights so we had to go out to eat which was fine. But if you want to dine in the hotel, like the locals want to do, you might think about reserving! The breakfast was very good. There is no egg station and breakfast was the same every day but there was enough variety that you could eat different things each day. Wifi is complimentary and works excellent---in the lobby as well as in the rooms, this is very important to us and a key element when we choose any hotel.

Rooms: We had a standard room, 3rd floor, and though it was small, it was clean and decent and had touches of design that we liked. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the TV was BIG which was nice. Not much room to move around and no real desk area but a small over the bed table was ok for one person to use a computer, write postcards, etc. You can open the windows a bit to get some fresh air, this is another bonus. There was no safe in the room so i think the hotel probably should add this. Also, the water from the shower kind of runs out into the rest of the bathroom so the hotel should probably put some kind of divider on the floor to solve this and there is no shelf in the shower to place your shampoos, etc...but these are minor issues. Seems that rooms on the 4th floor have balconies but we were there in November and it was cold and windy so we would not have used it much anyway I suppose, but it would be practical if you would have a chance to see the northern lights in the city and you would be able to run out to your balcony. The few rooms on the ground floor did not seem appealing and I would not like to stay down there as it gets so busy in the lobby. The fitness room is small as well and has a glass wall that faces the reception and lobby area which means everyone can watch you work out...that could be a bit uncomfortable.

All in all, a great place to stay and we would stay here again...in summer!

Great hotel with really friendly staff. We stayed in a room with a queen size bunk bed and it was very comfortable with lovely soft duvets.

The hotel overlooks the marina area and dry docks with lovely little restaurants nearby.

Great breakfast choice although menu in the restaurant not very child friendly although the quality of food was excellent

Took a trip out late at night and drove for an hour as recommended by hotel staff and saw a fantastic display of the northern lights.

Overall we wer very pleased with this hotel and would go back again.

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the marina hotel, The hotel itself is very new and modern the reception staff were very helpful. The room was great, the bar had a nice vibe with some interesting drinks available. Breakfast was nice with a variety of food available. The hotel was in a great location a short walk from the centre and a number of nice restaurants. There is a small car park we never had a issue finding a space. There is only a frosted glass wall between the main room and the bathroom so make sure you are very comfortable with the person you are sharing with. The only down side was the busy road outside the noise did not bother me, but I could see it being an issue for those not used to it. You should also be aware that there is a working dry dock outside the hotel but i found that added to the hotel with amazing views out beyond the harbour.

Fabulously clean and welcoming in a very good location overlooking the working marina- although don't think Palma, the hotel entrance overlooks large vessels in dry dock being worked on. The room is a fair size, but the clothing storage has been created without doors so it's difficult to keep tidy; and a glass-walled bathroom, with a sliding door that doesn't fully shut, makes us feel uncomfortable. However, the staff are great and very helpful, the bar and lounge have a great style and there are plenty of places to eat within a 10 minute walk.

The 4 pax sharing room - has got a queen size double deck right in the corner of a narrow bedroom...initially we find it really smallish but we are not going to spend much time in the room anyway... begin to love the concept of sleep on the upper deck which was really fun..
Note that this is near a shipyard and noise from the repairs and reconditioning of ships are a concern..
Sum it up...it is pretty nice stay but would be better if breakfast is included in the rate and the staff are friendlier...
