“Ok rooms, great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

The rooms are smaller than the pictures show, much smaller. We were booked a twin bed room, but got a double bed room instead, we managed but it didn't help and it was not the fault of the lovely staff who tried, and did, help us a lot in our every endeavour.

The breakfast was great, I love porridge but you never find it in almost never find it in any hotels, these guys had and the rest of the breakfast was really tasty. They had some seafood in the breakfast, lots of eggs and healthy stuff.

I did not try out the gym but it looked ok, they had a small small indoor climbing wall with a few simple holds, nothing fancy.

Iceland is a beatiful place, if I go again, I could stay here again, because of the great staff but I would book a bigger room with a balcony against the harbor.

A group of five 50+ women friends just returned from a four-night stay that the Marina Hotel. Generally we liked the funky vibe of this converted paint factory, that had only been open for a few weeks. that was one of the reasons we selected it, its newness.
To make this review most helpful for those chosing their Reykjavilk hotel I am going to list both what I thought were the pros and cons of the Marina:
Pros: Interesting off-the-beaten track location in up and coming marina district with nearby waterfront cafes and shops a few blocks from historic sites and about 10 blocks from commerical streets where shopping district/active nightlfe is located; colorful, bright, functional rooms, no frills (no complementary toiletries or coffee makers), comfortable beds, good lighting, plenty of electrical outlets, shades to block out the 20 hours of daylight, soundproof windows that open. The bathroom was small with frosted sliding glass doors, and the shower corner was all part of the room, no tubs, but nice rainhead shower. The breakfast room was pretty and functional with good selection of hot and cold items on the buffet, good bread, meats, cheeses, and pots of coffee for your table, friendly servers to keep the buffet well-stocked and tabled cleared off.
Constructive criticisms: 1. The front desk personnel were inattentive to guests, their priority was to look at their computer screens and answer the phones instead of engaging the guests who were waiting for service. I did ask if they were seasoned Icelandair hotel employees and they ackowledged that they were, so inexperience the hospitality industry in was not the issue.
2. My single room booked as part of the Icelandair package was too small for my comfort so paid an extra $50 per nite to upgrade to a double room, which had more room to move around. 3. Don't choose this hotel for the view, one side faces a noisy street and the other side faces a busy, working marina; 4. The management should consider setting aside seating in the restaurant/bar for hotel guests since by happy hour the room is filled with after-work crowds four deep at the bar and socializing at all the restaurant tables. The nite we wanted to have dinner there, 3 of us were forced into a badly-located two-person table and when we returned to the hotel in the evenings it was impossible to find a seat and difficult to order a drink because of the crowd; also, when the bar patrons emptied out into the alleyway/small street that was the entrance of the hotel, they were noisy and woke you up, all distracting from the enjoyment of your hotel stay. In conclusion, if you are like being among the partying/drinking crowd, the Marina is for you, but if you would prefer a more mature hotel experience for your visit to Reykjavik, I suggest you stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: The higher rooms on the marina side have a partial view of the mountains and sea and will be less no...

Looking out of my window at the new Icelandair Hotel Marina in downtown Reykjavik while writing this, enjoying the great view over the marina and the mountains across the bay. So much enjoying my stay. The hotel is new and I truly recommend it for your stay in Reykjavik. The design is unique, witty, playful and still functional, creating a very warm, homy atmosphere. Rooms vary in size, but are comfortable and cosy, too. The staff is very helpful, communicative, always eager to make your stay a pleasant one. Food is great, breakfast , lunch and dinner, healthy choices with local ingrediences, prepared and presented on top level. Plus, the bar is the place where locals and visitors mingle. Love the atmosphere. Will be back!

Just got back from a three night stay in the Reykjavik Marina and had a lovely stay.
The hotel is positioned right in the harbour with boats literally at the entrance. It wasnt as picturesque as I imagined but it worked in a quirky way. Inside, the hotel was much smaller than I imagined but again, really quirky and cosmopolitan. At night, the bar seemed to attract quite a lot of businessmen/women and had quite a cosmopolitan crowd so I presume its the new Reykjavik hangout. The gym was tiny, especially against the pictures on the website, but me and my boyfriend werent planning on using that anyway, lol
We stayed in a double room on the 3rd floor with the harbour view. Room was smaller than the architect pictures made it out to be again but was clean, simple and funky. The view we had was great,we could see the mountains and we also had a huge ship (which was being renovated) right outside our window. Beds were really comfy but we had twin beds pushed together with two single duvets which were a little on the small side,a double would have been much nicer. Our bathroom/wet room was a good size and very clean, however the wall and door were frosted glass with a gap around the door, and the door handle was just a hole which meant we could easily see into the bathroom. Looked nice but wasnt really practical, especially if you like a little privacy. This let the room down a little as did the fact that there werent any tea/coffee making facilities, bit disappointing.
We had breakfast only once in the hotel. I was expecting it to be really nice going by previous reviews, and it was nice, but nothing special and way too expensive,I would recommend eating out instead. We also ordered two drinks from the bar one evening..again,way too expensive!
Overall, the hotel was lovely and very quirky! A great place to stay if youre looking for something a little different/modern/hip. Location was perfect, taking only five minutes (if that) to reach either the centre or coastline and the staff were friendly, especially the two men who covered the nightshift :)

My check-in date was Saturday,21 April, which was just two days after the hotel's opening. There were still a few minoe things that were still being worked on,but nothing that disrupted my stay in any way.
Since I arrived early on a Saturday morning after an overnight flight,I was hoping to be able to check in right away and hopefully get a brief nap in before a whale watching tour in that afternoon.I was fortunate to be able to get into my room right away and relax on a very comfortable bed for an hour or so.The room seemed a bit on the small side, but it was very clean and comfortable.Being in Iceland for the first time I had not planned on spending much time in the room anyway.
The hotel's location is perfect for any trips origionating from the harbor.I had less than a two minit walk to the whale watching boat.It is also just a short walk to many restaurants and shops in the city center.Harpa is also less than ten minits away on foot. All the tours that I booked during my stay picked me up at the hotel as well.
The hotel bar was quite lively each night. The one drawback that I found was the menu selection during the evening.I did not find anything to suit my taste, but many others seemed to enjoy what was offered.Since there are so many other choices of resturants so close by,finding a good meal was never an issue.I will say that the breakfast buffet was fantastic.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull. They are also quite interesting to talk to.I had a few good conversations with the staff at the bar in particular.
I would most certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Half the rooms face a street, but the noise level is minimal.

This is a really nice new hotel, beautifully converted from a harbourside painting establishment to a characterful hostelry. The whole place is bang up-to-date from the large flat screen TVs to the contactless bedroom key system. All the staff we met were extremely friendly and more than helpful. Food is modern Scandinavian, and, as others have mentioned the breakfast spread is great. There is a limited dinner menu but what we had was well cooked and good value for the area. The position by the waterside is enviable and convenient for most places, especially the astounding new concert hall and conference centre, Harpa, which all visitors to Reykjavik should be sure to visit.

Location is perfect – almost downtown and near shopping, nightlife and restaurants. The staff was also very good and the breakfasts were my best meals in Iceland.
