Owner description: Perlan - Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, will open it's doors in the summer of 2017. When finished this will be the biggest exhibition of the natural wonders of Iceland. While construction takes place, the building will be open to visitors so they can enjoy one of Reykjavik's best viewing platforms. On the fourth floor, Kaffitar will open a pop-up cafe. This summer we will open the Glacier Exhibition, the first part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, which is being built on two storeys in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks. It will illustrate the glaciers, their history and future, and give visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through one of them. At the same time a new and exciting restaurant will open on the top floor of Perlan, underneath the huge glass dome. On the fourth floor will be a gift store that specializes in Icelandic craft and design. The second part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders opens in 2018: a new, cutting-edge planetarium that offers a 360-degree domed immersive experience with surround sound and the best image quality available in the world today. In the summer of 2018 we will open the third part, which will also be the largest part to date. Now we will use the entire ground floor of Perlan to feature various pearls of Icelandic nature.

“3rd visit to this attration - view is wonderful!”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

I visit Perlan mainly because there are pleasant leafy walks up tot the building and magnificent views from the viewing platform, in good weather. Also there is a very pleasant cafeteria which offers mainly quick food options (not to be confused with fast food). Their Danish open sandwiches are excellent value and taste great, too. Try to visit on a clear day for 360 degree views over Reykjavik and surrounding countryside.

We really did not use any of the fascilities inside, just observed shops and restaurants. We did enjoy the view - a great place to come and see the city

“Great views”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

Worth a trip to the top for the 360 degree view of Reykjavik. Good history display also. Small restaurant and craft shop also. I imagine the views from the restaurant at night are fantastic.

“Kind of goofy, but surprisingly fun”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

I wouldn't list Perlan as a must-see, and if you're on a quick visit, don't bother. However, they've taken a bunch of water tanks and made it a surprisingly fun place to visit. The view from the observation deck is great. The interior is spacious and they have a cafe and gift shop (also a very pricey revolving restaurant.) The trails leading up to Perlan from the road are edged in lupines and very nice.

“Within an easy walk of the city centre, and well worth it.”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

The Perlan is visible from much of Reykjavik, yet many people seem to go there only on coach tours. However, it is within 15 minute walk from most areas.
Inside it is ultra modern, but from the outside it appears to be 4 water tanks with a large central dome!. The grounds surrounding the Perlan though have some magnificent views over the city and the approach waterways.
Inside it is cool and has some interesting shopping. It is pleasant to sit there and just let the world go by.
