Owner description: Perlan - Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, will open it's doors in the summer of 2017. When finished this will be the biggest exhibition of the natural wonders of Iceland. While construction takes place, the building will be open to visitors so they can enjoy one of Reykjavik's best viewing platforms. On the fourth floor, Kaffitar will open a pop-up cafe. This summer we will open the Glacier Exhibition, the first part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, which is being built on two storeys in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks. It will illustrate the glaciers, their history and future, and give visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through one of them. At the same time a new and exciting restaurant will open on the top floor of Perlan, underneath the huge glass dome. On the fourth floor will be a gift store that specializes in Icelandic craft and design. The second part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders opens in 2018: a new, cutting-edge planetarium that offers a 360-degree domed immersive experience with surround sound and the best image quality available in the world today. In the summer of 2018 we will open the third part, which will also be the largest part to date. Now we will use the entire ground floor of Perlan to feature various pearls of Icelandic nature.

“Five star views”

We walked to the Pearl from our hotel in the centre of Reykjavik. It was a bit of a stretch, but it was worth doing. The 360 degree views that the outdoor walkway affords were worth the effort as we took some amazing photographs. As for the interior, we didn't eat at the cafe and the restaurant didn't open until the evening, so we can't really comment on these. There is a Viking Saga interactive display on the ground floor and this would appeal to some.

“Unique side trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

We paid an unexpected visit to the Perlan. We had seen it from afar, lighting up at night (and during the day with the limited sunlight!!!). We walked from city center and enjoyed the sights along the way. We had no idea what it was and enjoyed learning about it when we arrived. They have a lovely café and outside observation deck. We enjoyed a nice sandwich, soup and dessert. Most of the facility is free to access. Though I believe there was a museum. There is public transport, but if you are looking for a little side trip, go for it. We walked to the mall after that!!!

(Dec 2012 visit)
My sole purpose of visiting the Perlan was to see the wonderful views of Reykjavik. It did not disappoint.

“Wonderful Christmas Buffet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

After comparing reviews of other Reykjavik restaurants' Christmas buffets I decided to go with Perlan. I'm very glad we did. The buffet selection was enormous, and we took small amounts of everything. We loved virtually all of the selections, despite having little idea what any of it was.

The setting is quite formal, and I was honestly a little out of place without a jacket on. But the building itself is very nice, the table settings were well-done, and views were fantastic.

Although I have never eaten from the regular menu, I recommend Perlan for their Christmas buffet.

“Wonderful Night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

The Pearl was our venue for New Years Eve 2014. A large venue catering for 300+ Gala dinner on a revolving platform so you view changed whilst you ate.
In short a fantastic night, food was exceptional even though there were so many people.
Once the meal was finished you could go outside and watch a spectacular firework show across the city. A wonderful evening and one that will not be forgotten for a very long time.
