Owner description: Perlan - Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, will open it's doors in the summer of 2017. When finished this will be the biggest exhibition of the natural wonders of Iceland. While construction takes place, the building will be open to visitors so they can enjoy one of Reykjavik's best viewing platforms. On the fourth floor, Kaffitar will open a pop-up cafe. This summer we will open the Glacier Exhibition, the first part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, which is being built on two storeys in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks. It will illustrate the glaciers, their history and future, and give visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through one of them. At the same time a new and exciting restaurant will open on the top floor of Perlan, underneath the huge glass dome. On the fourth floor will be a gift store that specializes in Icelandic craft and design. The second part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders opens in 2018: a new, cutting-edge planetarium that offers a 360-degree domed immersive experience with surround sound and the best image quality available in the world today. In the summer of 2018 we will open the third part, which will also be the largest part to date. Now we will use the entire ground floor of Perlan to feature various pearls of Icelandic nature.

“It's all about the view!”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

I went to the Pearl (Perlan) strictly for the observation deck. (I didn't go in the Saga Museum, eat at the restaurant or hit up their cafeteria. I did look at their souvenirs but was not impressed.)
The observation deck is free. (Just take the elevator up. Go through the revolving doors. Prepare to be enchanted by the view.)
The views are amazing! You get a 360 degree view of Reykjavik. Definitely worth the walk or drive!

“Great viw”

Loved the walk up and the view from the Pearl but we did not get there while the museum was open so it was somewhat underwhelming.

“beautiful place and people”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

we ate in some lovely restaurants whilst in Iceland, but this was extra special because of the views in early evening and when it became dark, in the revolving restaurant.

“No title”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Considering that you will be walking on the top of hot water storage tanks able to oversee most of Reykjavik this is a place you do not want to miss visiting. In the glass dome above the tanks there is a first class restaurants.

As a bonus there is actually a viking museum in one of the tanks and an artificial erupting hot spring both inside as well as outside.

“Nice view”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

The view was nice but we didn't eat at the restaurant so can't comment on that. I couldn't really see why it was there but we had time to kill and it was good for that. I wouldn't make a special trip if your time is tight.
