Owner description: Perlan - Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, will open it's doors in the summer of 2017. When finished this will be the biggest exhibition of the natural wonders of Iceland. While construction takes place, the building will be open to visitors so they can enjoy one of Reykjavik's best viewing platforms. On the fourth floor, Kaffitar will open a pop-up cafe. This summer we will open the Glacier Exhibition, the first part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, which is being built on two storeys in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks. It will illustrate the glaciers, their history and future, and give visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through one of them. At the same time a new and exciting restaurant will open on the top floor of Perlan, underneath the huge glass dome. On the fourth floor will be a gift store that specializes in Icelandic craft and design. The second part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders opens in 2018: a new, cutting-edge planetarium that offers a 360-degree domed immersive experience with surround sound and the best image quality available in the world today. In the summer of 2018 we will open the third part, which will also be the largest part to date. Now we will use the entire ground floor of Perlan to feature various pearls of Icelandic nature.

“Great restaurant views and food”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Me and my husband went to the top restaurant one night few weeks ago and we loved it. The food was great and the views spectacular esp as the restaurant rotates so you get a full 360 degree view of the city. The service was first class and we enjoyed the whole experience. The food wasn't that expensive either because of the low Icelandic krona at the moment.

“Worth visiting even if just for the view”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Visited one morning at around 9am. Perlan was closed as it opens after 10am so cannot comment on Saga exhibition. We decided to visit the artificial geysir that can be found in the surrounding grounds. Unfortunately this appeared to be operational only after 1pm. Did not enter building but took some photos of the surrounding area and of Reykjavik as the view from up there is lovely!

“Only the Cafe”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

We just went up there on a bike tour - hit the cafe, our guide Gunnar asked for the hot chocolate to be HOT and it was warm, but delicious. What a view! This was made on top of old water towers (I believe) and it has a very lush restaurant on the very top level but you can eat in the cafe and get the view without spending a fortune.

“Advice of a local person”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Very truistic the food at the restaurants is so and so. Good visabelety towards Reykjavik, but Hallgrímskirkja is much better for that purpose.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We walked from our hotel (Radisson Blu Saga). The Perlan hosts a viking exhibition style history with headset commentary. It's well worth going and I found the history so interesting I bought the book.

It's interesting that the men (Vikings) came from Scandinavia but they obviously picked up women mostly from Ireland along the way, and that evidence is in their DNA today. Because it's a small island the history is fairly compact and easy to follow. It also shows the hard lifestyle in days gone by.

The Perlan has great views from the viewing platform (it's on a hill, you can't miss it) and the food in the cafe is excellent.
