“Powerful artist much worth knowing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

The Einar Jonsson Museum is very close to Hallgrimskirkja. We found Einar's work impressive and moving, marked throughout by its scale, mythic imagination, skilled execution, and emotional fervor. He occupies a territory that seems in a middle ground between religious and secular myth--in some ways like the Icelandic prose sagas themselves. This museum is much worth a visit.

“Einar Jonsson Museum Review”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

My apartment was a block away from this museum and garden. It is primarily a sculpture museum. I enjoyed touring the section where the sculptor and his wife lived. I especially liked seeing the pictures of the building and its surroundings the first few years after the building was completed. Reykjavik has grown a lot.

didnt make it on this trip, but it is one of the best of 2-3 restaurants in Reykjavik. If you have the time and budget, do go.

“Sculpture Garden Interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

We only visited the Einar Jonsson sculpture garden. Access in 2013 was free.
The work looks somewhat traditional from the street and when approaching it. However, the work reveals its complexity, detail and darkness when examined closely.
Einar Jonsson didn't work in bronze. His work has been reproduced in bronze to make it available and enduring.
Worth a visit if you are in that part of Reykjavik.

“Great Sculptural Work”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

The Einar Jonsson is located immediately across the street from Hallsgrimskirkja, but does not get the attention of the church. That's a shame. The gardens are amazing and totally free -- and they offer an insight into the work inside the museum. It is a great stop that should not be missed.
