Large Black blocks of prisms on outside and inside of the Opera house create a visual feast. We were told in the winter when its dark that the black glass reflects the light and becomes more colorful. Our taxi driver said during the economic downturn in 2005 while it was being built that there was a debate on finishing its construction. It was decided to finish building it as it was more expensive to demolish the partially built structure. It would have been a terrible loss for this impressive building. Inside there are beautiful pieces of art as well as seeing the structure from the inside. I would count this as near the top of my list of what to visit in Iceland.
