Large Black blocks of prisms on outside and inside of the Opera house create a visual feast. We were told in the winter when its dark that the black glass reflects the light and becomes more colorful. Our taxi driver said during the economic downturn in 2005 while it was being built that there was a debate on finishing its construction. It was decided to finish building it as it was more expensive to demolish the partially built structure. It would have been a terrible loss for this impressive building. Inside there are beautiful pieces of art as well as seeing the structure from the inside. I would count this as near the top of my list of what to visit in Iceland.

Wow is right. The architecture is one of blocks of glass prisms and we are told in the dark winter these prisms light up with different colors. The art work inside the Opera house is impressive and definitely worth going inside to see the glass facets of the building .

We spent an hour wandering around the building on our own which is open to the public. If you love photography, you will want even more time to take advantage of the play between the light and the geometric windows.

This is the very humble opera house in Reykjavik.
Almost all of the reviews of this place are mistaking it for the stunning Harpa concert hall by the waterfront.
The Reykjavik opera, however, resides in this building, which is anything but unique.

Wow, what an impressive building both inside and out. We didn't go and see a concert here, but spent about 30 minutes looking around. Combine with a trip to the Sun Voyager sculpture for some awesome photos.
