From the church tower you will have a fantastic view over Reykjavik. Inside of the church is probably no all that special to you if you have visited big churches in big city's, this is a pretty big church in a relatively small city. The church is also a big landmark in the city as you can see the tower from just about everywhere so it is a big part of the city. There is also a statue of Leif Ericson the viking explorer outside of the church so both the church and the statue make a good photo opportunity.

There is a fee to go up the tower but not to have a look at the church it self.

It dominates the skyline in Reykjavik and the light is lovely inside. The guide told us something about the poor-quality concrete used in the tower. And lots of other interesting things. Didn't they have to have subscriptions to raise money to install the organ?

Look, you can google the facts. Or listen to a guide. Just go. You won't be touring many buildings because that's not really what Iceland is about but definitely visit this one.

neato interior, gorgeous views from the tower of Reykjavik, but a little more info about the church and its importance/irrelevance would have been nice.

The columns outside this lovely church in the heart of downtown look like columns of basalt, so common in Iceland. The interior is beautiful with an amazing pipe organ. There are free concerts held regularly. Check out the schedule

This is one of the main landmarks in Reykjavik. It is a huge church with tower 8 stories high, which gives panoramic view of all Reykjavic. The church took 47 years to build (1947-1986). Although very plain inside (only one stained glass window), it is stunningly beautiful. The wood inside was very light colored...so different than other old world European churches, with all of the gold, stained glass windows, and darkness inside. The organ was imported from Germany. The church is Lutheran, the state religion of Iceland (85%).
