We had three nights in this hotel at the start of December 2012 and found the stay to be good throughout. The receptionists were always helpful, willing to give advice and would even book us onto excursions if asked.

We booked onto a few excursions - note that they pick you up at the door, always take you to the bus station and you then get on a bigger bus as the streets are so narrow, big buses cannot get through.

The room itself was basic, no pictures, laminate floor, comfortable bed and loads of free toiletries in the bathroom.

There is an adjoining restaurant which serves up evening meals, but looked really busy you you probably will need to book a table if you use it. They stop serving at 9.30pm. Breakfast was adequate - help yourself continental.

I'm not sure why it was given a four star rating, it's more like a hostel, clean but basic, yet it's central and two minutes from the main shopping road and big church.

Room Tip: We only saw our room which was on the 2nd floor. There's a lift as well as stairs. Check out the stuffed birds in cabinets in hallways!

This hotel is in a perfect location, which is also a very quiet location. The 2 ladies on reception were fantastic, so nice and very helpful. They booked our tours for us and called to check things were still on. The room was a nice size and the bathroom good. Beware though the hot water in Iceland smells of rotten eggs, so the relaxing showers to warm you up aren’t so nice, the cold water though is apparently one of the best drinking waters in the world.... also please take off your jewellery before showering as it corroded our silver jewellery, which does eventually come off with some cleaner but no one tells you… I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Reykjavik, good price, great location and great staff…

Really enjoyed our four day stay in this hotel. It is well placed to walk everywhere while still being in a quiet location. The staff are very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to advise on what to see and do and book excursions. Their popular restaurant, called SNAPS, has excellent food at sensible prices.

Room Tip: Try and get a corner suite, they have a lot more room.

We stayed here for 1 night and was expecting a nice 4 star hotel, instead it was dated and more like a hostel with minimal facilities, other than a small restaurant it had nothing more. The bathroom smelled whenever using the shower. Positives were free wifi and central location.

I recommend other accommodations. Location is quiet and charming but a bit hostel-like as opposed to being a stylish service oriented hotel. Staff are too young to be working in a hospitality industry. Restaurant is rustic with a fine bar and friendly bartenders. Lobby is more of a dormitory-like lobby- a bit tourist oriented and not a boutique hotel like the 101 or with any amenities like the Hilton. Staff at desk need serious polishing.
