We have just returned from 3 nights in Reykjavic with Icelandair as part of the Northern Lights deal, and selected this hotel on the basis it was advertised as a 3 star, it isnt, its a 2 star.
The advantages / good points are, its location, slap bang at the end of the main shopping street , 5 -10 mins from the main restaurants / bars, the staff are very friendly and helpful and sorted out all the tours we chose to do, the accent can come across as pretty brusque and finally the beds are very comfortable.
The bad points, the rooms are ridiculously small there is nowhere to un pack your cases and put things out, the bathrooms of course are smaller still, ours was less than 5 foot square; the bedding looked a little tired, also worth mentioning is the fact that some rooms have bunkbeds; free wi fi is advertised, this can only be picked up in the lounge / reception area, its a very poor signal, half the time I couldnt connect; the breakfast room has probably 10 tables, split between 2 and 4s, there are 38 rooms...generally when you go out on tours, pick ups are between 8 - 9am which means there just isnt enough room to sit down and eat.
In general the hotel reminded me of a reasonable hostel, in need of a bit of a makeover, flaky paint, mouldy sealant in the bathroom, cigarette burns around the vantiy unit, nowhere to relax seated in your room - and remember to take a hairdryer with you.
It wasnt bad for 3 nights the location is superb, but then again there are other hotels in Reykjavic centre that dont need shuttle buses to get you in and out.

It is everything you need - not a posh place, but who needs that. Comfortable clean room on the top floor - no lift but good exercise to get up there. Ensuite bathroom, room cleaned every day. Breakfast basic but good. The staff were incredibly helpful and made the trip go very smoothly - we were called in our room to ask if we were OK, and suggested that our Northern Lights trip would take place that evening as the conditions were perfect. We were helped to hire a car, to get to the Blue Lagoon - nothing was a problem. And just round the corner is the most wonderful shopping and restaurant area. I would definitely stay again.

You will find Reykjavik is quite a big city however we lived at this cozy hotel just right front of the Hallgja Church which is amazing. The hotel services is super B and they´ve been helpful and gave us lots of adviced and direction. They did helped a lot to book on the tour to hunt the Northern light and the others. Besides that, the hotel room is fully equip with a proper heater, hot powerful water, flat screen TV and etc. I am highly recommended you to stay in this hotel.

BRAVO..

Booked Leifur Eirikssson as part of an Iceland Air deal. On the plus - fantastic location next to the Cathedral and a stone's throw from great restaurants and shops. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate, ranging from fruit, breads, cereals, juices, teas, coffees etc. Service was acceptable - they booked restaurants for us, organised hire cars, tours etc. Level of friendliness depended on who was on reception at the time.

Rooms were more disappointing; very basic and hostelish in feel. Our dilemna was the lack of hairdryers - we ended up not washing our hair rather than going outside with wet hair in December. Beds were pretty comfy, bathrooms were small and only contained towels and soap. My twin room in the annex was pretty roomy in size, but my friends had singles which were "snug" to say the least!

Would be prepared to stay again for the location only, but next time, I'll make sure to take a hairdryer!

The Leifur Eiriksson is a 'no frills' basic hotel very centrally located opposite the Hallgrímskirkja ..... the church spire/tower being a perfect landmark! The location is ideal for walking around Reykjavik, close to main shopping area, restaurants, museums etc. The hotel is only a short distance from the bus terminus and mini buses provide efficient transfers.

The hotel is basic and is ideal if you only intend to sleep there! The rooms are adequate, beds comfortable enough, and very good heating, bathroom very small, but adequate for a couple of nights - there are no toiletries etc provided. The breakfast was fine and hot drinks were available 24/7 - which made up for no coffee facilities in rooms. The reception were freindly and helpful.

All told a good location for visiting the city ... but if you intend to spend time in the hotel then you would be disappointed. It is basic and good value, fine just to sleep in. Would I go back? For a couple of nights yes .... for longer maybe not!

We arrived having booked a room for 2 people, as we are a gay couple I think the owner got confused and gave us 2 single rooms. One room in the basement was disgusting - more like a police cell! We asked to be moved so then we got a room in the loft, where you could literally not swing a cat. The breakfast was ok apart from only having one toaster for a very busy hotel. If you think you will hardly be in your room then book here as the location is great, but otherwise look around.

My partner and I have just returned after staying 4 nights at this hotel having booked via Icelandair.
The hotel has a brilliant location, it was clean and the service was brilliant. It is basic but for what you pay its great value - if you want lots of luxury then of course you are going to pay more especially in the centre of a capital known for being expensive !! I'm not quite sure what some people expect but there was free tea/coffee available at all times, the breakfast was adequate. The rooms were conftable including the beds - lots of hot water and it was also very warm!
They assisted us on trips and were very pleasant and I wuld cetainly return here - in fact we are looking to go back next year and have also recommended to family.
