V good and respectable hotel. Stayed in a twin room on the fourth floor at the top of the hotel. Room was big enough for 2 people, it wasn't too big nor too small. Bathroom was adequate and served the purpose well enough. The room was nice and warm, we were there in January and had no issues at all with the room being too cold. WIFI worked well too. Nice touch having free coffee, tea etc... in the breakfast area. the location of the hotel was great- having great access to the harbour area, restaurants galore big plus! Only slight downside was the breakfast area was big enough on all but one day, when it got very busy and had to wait to find a table/ seating area. breakfast was decent but no hot offering like eggs for example. overall good hotel for a few nights!

The hotel ticks most of the boxes. Our room was quite small but OK for us. It was warm, clean and comfortable. Sky channels on the TV and wifi available. Coffee, tea making was in the cafe area, free of charge for 24 hours. Hot chocolate was very welcome on our December trip. Situated dead opposite the beautiful cathedral and at the end of the popular shopping area. Continental breakfasts proved adequate. All the staff we met proved to be very helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor can suffer from traffic noise

We requested a ground floor room and were granted one - it was very basic - two single beds on opposite sides of the room ! However this hotel was in a great location - a few minutes walk to lots of bars and restaurants and 15 minutes walk to the city centre. The staff were so friendly and helpful - they booked our trip to the Blue Lagoon, our transfer to the airport and kept us up to date on whether we would be going on our northern lights trip. Pleasant reception area where you could sit and have a hot drink - supplied all day for free. They even ensured there was something to eat for breakfast when we left for the airport at 5am. Don't expect anything fancy, more of a B&B than a hotel in my opinion but overall good value for money.

Room Tip: rooms on the ground floor were a little noisy due to proximity to reception but as there were no lif...

This hotel is old! The hotel may have been last updated in 1960.

There are better hotels in Iceland to stay at for the same cost. We were unlucky enough to book into an even worse hotel there and scrambled to find a new place to stay.

We left this hotel after being there for only 5 minutes - we would never go back and stay here - it was old, damp, and cold in the wintertime and by the looks of it - the do not have A/C for the summer, so it would be extremely hot in the summer.

The hotel is also situated at the top of the city - at one end of a shopping street that is a good climb if you are not used to walking on steep pitches it may be a tough haul.

We stayed during January 2014 for 4 nights. It is, as another reviewer out it "nothing fancy" but clean, welcoming, warm and excellently positioned for the whole of central Reykjavik. The rooms are smallish but perfectly adequate, beds comfortable, shower/toilet small but perfectly formed and warm enough to open the windows at night - in January, in Iceland!
The staff were all very helpful and happy in their work, the breakfasts gave a plentiful supply of a range of foods, including a make-your-own pancake machine. In that bright, clean public area there are snacks and a few drinks to buy at any time and a plentiful supply of free hot and cold drinks. I can personally recommend the hot chocolate.
Pick-ups for the airport and trips, including Northern Lights, are made at the hotel and hire cars can be delivered and picked up from the hotel, too.
The staff recommended Caruso's Italian restaurant and it was excellent - try their fish soup, it is brilliant. Food everywhere was very good, but be prepared for the expense. Everything is much more expensive than the UK, but the real joys of Iceland cannot be bought!
A warning: in the UK much is made of the Northern Lights but locals told us that the stereotypical skyful of green, blue and pink is very rare and when we were there they had not been seen for 11 nights and this is a good year BUT there is so much more to Iceland and Reykjavik. we saw 5 minutes of a green band across the sky but it in no way diminished our trip at all.
Go, go, go!

Room Tip: I have rated the rooms as average, as they are simple if excellent value. Friends went to the same...

We stayed here for 3 nights with friends as part of a package. the hotel is small but bright, clean and friendly although with limited facilities or common areas. The location is directly opposite the landmark Reykjavik Cathedral and couldn't be better placed. The principle shopping and restaurant areas are also just around the corner. The rooms are small but very warm and perfectly comfortable. Breakfast was nice, especially the soused herrings if you like that sort of thing, but very limited in choice.

Room Tip: front of the hotel rooms have good views of the cathedral

Stayed at this hotel with my partner for a four night stay. Excellent location within the city. Rooms spotless, comfortable, en suite, tv with sky, perfect for the exploring traveller who is up and out early and back in late ready to crash. Hotel reception has an impressive free hot drinks machine that never fails or runs out. I had read how the Icelandic folk thrive on strong coffee; I do too. However, their coffee redefines strong to the point where I have been home a week now and still have not slept! A slight over-exaggeration but you get the point!!!! The staff who work in this hotel and especially managing the reception desk are bright, cheerful and entirely knowledgable about the country and the excellent tours offered by all of the operators; Reykjavik Excursions were an excellent company to use. Incidentally, we went primarily to see the Northern lights as does every visitor it seems, despite the conditions being absolutely excellent the lights didnt appear. They are a natural phenomenon and there is no guarantee you will see them. Disappointing this may be but this country has so much on offer and to see that you still dont go home disappointed by not seeing the lights. The restaurants in this city are superb, the Grill market is particularly good with a great choice of seafood and meats. Yes, they are expensive but the country is in general but what a beautiful place to holiday.
