“good value and very central location”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We stayed here in May, and it was part of an Icelandair package that included flights and a golden tour trip. It was our first visit to Reykjavik, and won't be the last. The Hotel was not expensive, so we didn't expect 5 star quality, but we it did have, was ok. The Hotel was a short walk from bus terminal and in the other direction you could walk down to the town centre. Our room was in a separate block across the street, which we didn't expect, but had a good view of the cathedral and square from the window. You had to put your coat on to go across for breakfast, but that was only a minor inconvenience. The room was clean and tidy with adequate storage space. The bed was fine, I read other people were uncomfortable, but we had no issues, but I did ask for and got extra towels. The breakfast room got very busy as lots of people are going on tours at particular times so all breakfast say 45 mins before. We went early to avoid the crush.

The reception was staffed 24/7 and they all spoke excellent English so could help with all sorts of questions. The dining room and bedrooms all had free Wi-fi which was great - so you could book a car and plan trips will you were there.

There isn't any drinks facility in rooms but free tea/ coffee sorts of drinks were available in the dining room which was open all the time, and it also had an enormous TV with sky news playing so you could grab a coffee, connect to Wi-fi with your feet up and also watch the news. Lots of people were doing this and it was a friendly atmosphere.

I would stay here again. Looking at other hotel prices in the area this was an absolute bargain.

PS the hot water is direct from the ground and is very sulphurous - not good for hair condition, so rinse in cold if you can stand it:-)

Room Tip: I don't think there are any lifts, so get a ground floor room if stairs are a problem for you.

After a night at the Blue Lagoon Clinic hotel, the Leifur Eiriksson hotel was a major step down, but it proved to be quite adequate for what we needed in Reykjavik. It has a very good location, and we walked everywhere we wanted to in town from the hotel. The breakfast buffet was awesome- easily the best of the 4 different hotels I sampled while in Iceland. It was a very busy and crowded breakfast area, but we all were fed well. The rooms are super basic. I have never seen a bathroom so small. I am serious, you could sit on the toilet, while taking a shower, while brushing your teeth and spit in the sink all at the same time! But it did the job. The wifi connection was good. And the front desk staff were very helpful with questions and helping arrange for our last minute day trip ideas.

I stayed four nights at Hotel Leifur Eiriksson booked as part of an Icelandair holiday package and stayed in one of the hotel's single rooms. I had read some tripadvisor reviews before arriving so came somewhat prepared for this no frills hotel. I was pleased to see though that some of the complaints by other reviewers had since been addressed by the hotel. For example, my room had plenty of coat hangers and a blackout curtain had been installed behind the regular curtains for all the night light during the summer months. That said, there is still some room for improvement. I found it a bit hard to sleep because the single bed wasn't comfortable (quite soft and sagged in the middle) and there was only one saggy pillow, with no spare sleeping pillows or extra blankets in the cupboard (one night it got quite cold). I also got woken up a few times by people in the neighbouring room returning in the early hours of the morning and realised the sound proofing between the rooms was particularly bad. Although the hotel does supply soap/shampoo in the rooms, this was a cheap variety provided in a dispensar and really dried out my skin (i eventually purhased my own soap and body lotion from the supermarket across the road). There was also no hairdryer in the room but i asked for one at reception and they gave me one to use for a few days. The shower was also a bit grim - a tiny triangle in a corner separated from the rest of the bathroom by a shower cutain that stuck to you during the shower. That said, the rooms were clean, the breakfast very pleasant, the location second to none, and the staff friendly and helpful. This is a good hotel, just don't expect all the trimmings.

Room was small but adequate. Centrally located and able to walk to places of interest easily. Good dining places around with many choices including a thai cafe. Staff were helpful n booked tours which pick up from hotel. Enjoyed the hot chocolate that was available always. Simple breakfast.

My single room was in an annexe over the road from the main hotel. No problem with this, but the room was small. It lacked a wardrobe (no space for one), had just one cupboard with no drawers (tho only small drawer was in the bedside table), and was provided with just two coathangers serving three hooks on the wall. Other guests said their rooms were small, but doubles seem to manage a small wardrobe. Otherwise okay. The hotel was quiet (a major plus) and provided a good breakfast which lasted me through the day (bread, toast-making, cold meats, fish, fresh orange slices, melon, etc.). Tea and coffee and juice are available all day/night in the dining area. The hotel is surrounded by good eating houses. I liked the fish restaurant on the road leading from the hotel into town and situated on the right-hand side. Perfectly adequate fish of the day, with salad, for just under 2000 kroner.

We were visiting Reykjavik for the first time on vacation and stayed here based on the comments in TripAdvisor. This is very nice tourist hotel with a great central location to see the city. It was a 15 minute walk to the center of the old city, many great restaurants, tourist attractions and departure points, and dock area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The typical European breakfast was always on (or ahead) of time. The Reception area was always staffed and they were exceptionally helpful in providing directions and arranging tours or transportation. This is a great property at an exceptional rate. I highly recommend if you are in the city for a few days. We will stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Annex" across the street from the main hotel, to the left as you are fac...

I wasn't expecting much as it is a basic cheap hotel but aside from the perfect location opposite the biggest catherdrale in Iceland, a short walk from the seafront & main high street with main restaurants close by.
Everyone goes on about the free tea/coffee 24/7 but as a keen coffee drinker even for instant it was foul, just brown thick hot water so don't get excited. The breakfast room is too small to hold all the guests, we went for breakfast about 8am & there was no tables available, we approached every table that had spare seats but everyone said they were saving them for the rest of their parties so we stood by reception (part of breakfast room, very small hotel) holding cereal bowls so couldn't have a drink or anything that required buttering or cutting! The reception just ignored the situation.
The free breakfast was limited - corn flakes, muesli, milk, juice, plain yogurt, cut up oranges, rye bread, normal bread, cold meats, rubbery burger cheese, tinned fruit salad, jam, marmalade.

The room was clean but the "double" bed was 2 twins pushed together but they were slightly different heights so there was a ditch I kept falling into plus we had a duvet that only just covered the bed so any movement & you've lost your cover, very annoying.
The bathroom was amazingly small, you could basically have a shower while on the loo! I like to wash my face using a sink but the sink was so small I couldn't achieve this & just covered myself in water.
When we checked out we went to reception they just looked at us we said we'd like to check out they go, where's your key, we hand it over, then silence, we go anything else we need to do, they go no, then they continued with their work, I feel this was just lacking any customer service, not even a smile.
But as Iceland is an expensive place, this budget hotel helped us with its reasonable pricing get a trip done so if you can put up with cramped conditions, uncomfortable beds & bad coffee you could do worse.

Room Tip: Request by email before your holiday to request a room in the main hotel & a view of the catherd...
