“Great location, comfort ok”

I stayed just one night in this hotel and it was a very good option: it is very central, there are parking spaces nearby, the room was small but comfortable, breakfast was very good. The drawback is that there is no lift, so it is quite heavy to lift the suitcase to the 3rd floor if your room is upstairs.

Our room was a double in the annex, which is across the street from the main hotel. The rooms are very small (think student dorm room) but clean. The hotel is centrally located and you can walk everywhere. Breakfast is included and is very basic but adequate. The breakfast is small and you may have to wait for a table, so give yourself some extra time if you are checking out or have an excursion planned. The girl at the front desk is very friendly and takes care of everyone.

Myself and my husband stayed here over new year in 2012. The rooms are basic but clean, the bathroom was small more like an en suite. The shower only had a curtain that went all the way around it to stop water going on the floor, it stuck to you while you were in the shower- not pleasant. The staff were very helpful and we stayed in the main hotel. The breakfast was basic but nice, cereals, waffle maker, toast etc very handy when you are going out early on trips. There is also complimentary hot drinks & juice for guests in the breakfast area which saves you money & having to go to a cafe. Reykjavik is fairly expensive to eat out, but the standards of food are very good. Id recommend paying to go Hallgrimskirkja church, the views over Reykjavik are wonderfull. We went on trips to the blue lagoon, Thingvellir national park & northern lights all organised through Reykjavik excursions. I would definitely recommend booking the northern lights tour through them as if you don't see them on your first trip they give you the second one free! Unfortunately we did not see them but you can't guarantee the weather. This hotel was prime location for fireworks on New Year's Eve, all the locals bring their own fireworks to the square opposite the hotel and set them off- fantastic to see!

The location of this hotel is perfect. You can walk a good share of Reykjavik from here. The breakfast was good and the all the time coffee a real treat. We were with a tour, so no choice of hotel or room. We lucked out and got a second floor room in the "across" the street part of the hotel. The members of our group that got ground floor and top floor rooms were very unhappy. The top floor rooms, you couldn't stand up fully in the whole room. The ground floor rooms are below ground so your view is of feet. We had a perfect view of the Hallgrimskirkja from our window. I don't know what the tour paid, so don't know if it was value for the money. If you're after a great location and only use the room to sleep, this would work. And yes, the bathroom makes you believe it was designed for elves!

Room Tip: Avoid the top and bottom floors in the adjacent building.

For the price paid, this hotel would not be considered the most value-for-money accommodation in Reykjavik, although the location is good, since the iconic Hallgrimskirkja is just a stone's throw away, and the main shopping street Laugavegur is 3 minutes walk away.

That said however, the single room I stayed in was clean, though claustrophobic. The toilet was fine, but the shower left much to be desired. The shower area is a slightly elevated platform in the toilet and the area was uncomfortably tiny. The shower is cordoned off with a flimsy curtain which you will find sticking uncomfortably to your back as you shower, since the area is so tiny. I gave up on the curtains, and showered with the curtains undone, which inevitably flooded the toilet floors. Perhaps your room experience would be better in a double room.

Service however is excellent, and luggage storage is available at this hotel. You will find your sleep undisturbed, compared to some of the other hotels located nearer the pubs and bars, where shouting and loud music can be heard on friday nights and weekends.

Room Tip: Request for rooms closer to the ground floor, if you have heavy luggage. There are no elevators in t...

The family run Hotel Leifur Eiriksson was our base for a 3 night stay in Iceland and we would happily recommend it to others.
The location opposite the imposing Hallgrimskirkja and just a short stroll from the main shopping street with its variety of shops and restaurants more than makes up for the no-frills bedrooms in the Annexe part where we stayed. The bedrooms were quite basic, no toiletries other than hand soap, no hair-dryer but were warm, spotless and most important had comfortable beds. Staff were friendly without being intrusive and there is plenty of tourist info available in the main building which is where the Reception and Breakfast areas are situated - one word of warning is that the eating area is quite small so you might have to wait for a table at breakfast time. We appreciated the fact that free tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available here throughout the day.
Whilst here we went on the Elding whale watching trip: I can highly recommend this but do wear the weatherproof gear they offer especially if its cold and rainy like it was for us - keeps you very snug! We also did a Goldern Circle trip with Reykjavik Excursions deciding that the stop-off at Pingvellir National Park with its mystical atmosphere was the highlight of that trip and visited the Blue Lagoon en-route from the airport (having your picture taken complete with Silica face-mask just has to be done!) The views of Reykjavik from the 8th floor viewing platform of the Hallgrimskirkja are well worth seeing for the bargain price of 700kr, also nip inside and view the Churchs massive organ pipes - impressive!
As noted by others restaurant prices are quite high especially if you want to try the Icelandic lamb dishes but there are plenty of places to choose from, we ate twice at the Laundromat Cafe: reasonable prices and good food (breakfasts especially)and also had a very enjoyable meal at the Paris Cafe, sadly we did not have time to eat at the famed Hot dog stand on the harbour front but maybe next time!
Reykjavik town center has a village like feel whilst still being very modern and Iceland itself has so much to offer visitors especially if you are an outdoors type person - we are already planning a return visit next Feb/March to hopefully catch the Northern Lights.
Our break was booked through travelzoo and we flew with Icelandair - very good economy seats all with their individually controlled seat back TV screens: wouldn't bother to pay for an upgrade!

Stayed here in March 2013. The location is great, opposite the church and 5 minutes walk from all the bars/restaurants. The hotel itself did disappoint a bit. We were in the annex, and it felt more like student accommodation than a hotel. Yes, you can't expect much for the price (particularly in Iceland), but we just felt the hotel felt very basic and a bit run down. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special.
