“Cheap, but not so cheerful!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

So whilst the attraction to this hotel is the price, this is merely to be used as somewhere to rest your head. The hotel offers no facilities whatsoever accept bed and breakfast, but even those are questionable. The bedroom is small, unclean and about as welcoming as a prison cell. The walls are very thin and offers no privacy. The beds are old, with broken springs. The breakfast was stale and inedible... but Subway is across the road.
The hotel is situated further away than stated from the centre of town, it is a 45 minute seafront stroll should you have the weather to do it, failing that its around 2000kr in a taxi each way.
All in all, I would pay a little extra per night to stay somewhere with clean bedding, closer to town and more comfortable after a cold day out in a very cool city!

My husband and I stayed at the Cabin early Jan.. We found the staff excellent, especially Nini on the front desk. She was great. Nothing was too much trouble and was very helpful when we asked any questions and readily made phone calls for us. Also Iris who booked trips for us, was very helpful and did not seem to mind however many questions we asked about each tour and was genuinely interested, afterwards, to ask how they went. Like other guests have said, go for a superior room on the 7th floor, the views are great. Room not huge but very warm and very clean. WIFI provided in these rooms and very reliable. Plus tea/coffee and a fridge provided. Breakfast although not cooked was adequate and the breads were delicious. All in all a great hotel for the price and perfectly placed for a good walk along the seafront or main road into the town. We want to return in the summer when the evenings are lighter and would book this hotel again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Front Superior rooms have a great view to sea and mountains. Garage over the road to buy biscuits t...

The best thing about this hotel is its (low) price. Mind you, they have different categories and ony the basic rooms are VERY cheap. But even these rooms are clean and provide a good deal for money conscious travellers, especially during low season. In its vicinity you will find the largest (and most interesting) outdoor thermal pool of the city, the botanical garden, the tiny "zoo", and a 24h grocery store.
It is equally far from the city center as the far more expensive hotels Hilton and Grand Reykjavík, about 30 minutes walking. The reception can be very chaotic at times. It is small with work space for only two employees having to serve several hundred guests.

Room Tip: A few rooms do not have a window to the outside. Make sure you do not get one of those, unless you a...

In a country where everything is so expensive it was a good deal to find this hotel. The room is little bigger than a wardrobe and basic accommodation but clean. The breakfast is cold buffet, not a big deal of choice but ok to start the day. wifi is very expensive but the parking is free which is great. Short walk to centre of town.
Only problem was the people turning up late in neighbouring rooms after coming from Northern lights trips.

This hotel is very nice, but not quite could be expected by the 3* label. It is immaculately clean, the staff friendly and helpful and the shower over our bath superb. The food is good and plentiful but similar food (cold salad type things) used for all 3 meals! The standard rooms were reported by fellow guests to be amazingly small. Our 'deluxe' one was on the small side of big enough with 3 single beds in it. There are 3 types of rooms and we were told beforehand that the top two had free wifi but on arrival only the top one does. It can be bought for usual prices. It was also implied there would be a free transfer from the airport, but this has to be bought too. There was no hairdryer in the room, but could be borrowed with a deposit paid. There are also NO double rooms at the hotel - they just push two singles together, each with separate bedding. It is a 25-30 minute walk to the centre of town, but has a lovely view to mountains across the bay.

Me and my partner have just returned from a week here. The hotel is absolutely spot on and fantatstic value. We stayed in the superior room on the 7th floor overlooking the harbour with the cost being £128.00 for the room including bed and breakfast. The staff were very courteos, polite and helpful. The Northern Lights completed it all as they showed on two nights over the harbour. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Superior Room is a must. Large rooms and gret views over the harbour to the glaciers. W...
