“Icelandair Natura Fail”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

My family and I booked the airfare and hotel through Icelandair. Although the package deal was about $150 more than if we had booked it separate, we still did it with them because of the "perks" we would receive.

First, our rooms were supposed to be early upon our 6AM arrival. This was not done. I had already told them the types of rooms we wanted, but they were not ready. Only 1 of the rooms was ready and the rest took about 2 hours to be cleaned.

Second, the website said that the hotel offered shuttle service to the city center (which would have been excellent as the hotel is a bit outside of the city and walking in freezing temperatures is not pleasant), but for some unexplained reason it was not running. We resorted to using the city bus instead. Thank goodness the hotel at least provides two tickets per person.

Third, although internet connection is available through two computers in the lobby, I would have preferred for wifi to be included with the hotel reservation. If you wanted to have wifi in your room, good luck!! Even if you paid for a 24 hour connection the signal was so weak you still had to go back down to the lobyy to connect.

Fourth, although the website also said that the spa was included...it wasn't!!!

Only one restaurant in the hotel - not budget friendly at all, but then food is very expensive throught Iceland.

Bartenders really need to be taught how to make drinks not just have an idea of what goes in them. Ordered a Bellini and Margarita and was very very disappointed.

The front desk daystaff always looked unhappy and were not very friendly. The night staff was much much better!!

One good thing about the hotel, very very clean. Next to the BSI station, city bus picks right out front, the beds although twin size were very comfortable. The rooms were a bit small.

Read the fine print of the website before booking!!!

Nice place and we liked their "green" attitude ! It's all about nature at the Natura. Rooms are small but clean and quiet. Bed comfy. Lobby can get crowded. Our room was not ready when we arrived but staff pointed us to the restaurant where we were treated to a cup of coffee on the house. Room was ready in about 30 minutes. Take advantage of happy hour in the lounge. Eskimo Mojito is refreshing. Order the bread tray while having a cocktail. Nice. We enjoyed the smaller breakfast in the restaurant rather than the breakfast buffet. They serve strong coffee, I liked that ! Spa is wonderful. We went down in the mornings, upon opening at 8:00am. Quiet then. The pool gets crowded in the evening. We are avid walkers/hikers so the walk across the street to the Perlan was a treat. Lots of trails to explore. The walk into town took us about 20 minutes and we enjoyed that also. Walking/biking paths to town. We'll stay at the Natura again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a geothermal room on the 3rd floor. Very little noise from the airport.

Firstly, just to correct any misconceptions - read the website carefully because the pool and spa at this hotel is only free if you stay in the more expensive rooms. Otherwise it's 1000ISK per person! Yes the basic rooms are pretty compact. I would say that the decor and facilities are akin to a Travelodge. There's shower gel in a dispenser so bring your own shampoo. However, it's clean and who spends their time in the room anyway? Only the upgrade rooms have a safety deposit facility. Be prepared for reception to try and persuade you to upgrade at check in!

The beds were comfortable and as we were on the car park side of the hotel, there were no noise issues from the domestic airport.

Food was ok. Breakfast was a fairly typical buffet, the coffee better than average and good bread. On the second day,it was very busy so we sat at a large table with others.

The dinner menu was very limited and hopeless for strict vegetarians. The fish stew was tasty as was the salmon on another night.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the national museum - well worthy visit. Another 5 minutes or so takes you into the city. It's not the most pleasant of walks but preferable to standing at a windy bus stop. We also walked up to the Perlan.

Overall, an ok base for a very enjoyable first visit to Iceland and we would consider staying here again.

Located about 45 mins from Keflavik and right beside Reykjavik airport, this is a clean and functional hotel. Time it wrong and you will find yourself behind a queue of elderly Americans all trying to check in at once. The number of checking in staff is insufficient to deal with this number of visitors. On one occasion the queue was to the doorway with just one receptionist on duty. On two occasions I called reception from my room for over five minutes without reply and ended up having to go there to get replies to my questions. When you finally get to talk to them the reception staff are very good. Laundry service is good and fast. Dinner restaurant is good with nice food and good service. Best way to get to Keflavik airport is to arrange bus transfer. It's reasonably priced and very good.

Room Tip: Take an upgrade. Normal rooms are too small for stays of more than two days.

The location is kind of strange. The good news it's near the domestic airport if you are flying inside the country. The bad news it's not really close to town. We took both the taxi (expensive) and the local bus to get onto town. It was just inconvenient.

We loved the food in the hotel. There are not a lot of choices, but all was good. Would have liked to see more fish choices since that is what Iceland is known for.

Otherwise, the rooms were clean and comfortable.

There is a travel agent on sight to help you book adventures. That certainly is the highlight of Iceland. Beautiful scenery abounds.

We were surprised at the prices in Iceland. Seemed like about 50 to 100% higher than the US in general.

We arrived to a long line trying to check in, so we ate in the "only" breakfast area which was a buffet. Later we learned that you could get oatmeal and coffee in the restaurant area, but only after great difficulty with communication. We finally got the rooms after being "offered upgrades" on rooms and breakfast packages. We did not receive the guide book on Rekjavic which we realized 2 days later when we saw others in the long line checking in or out. It would have helped in planning our days.
Anyone who can sleep next to a runway has my respect, but we moved to the other side which was less noisy. The location requires a drive to the main part of town unless you like walking across highway areas. Took awhile to find the bus which is just across the street, No shuttle. When you get to the town, you are still about a half mile from the main shopping, dining, and nicer area that is delightful. So if you did not have the little booklet and were not persevering, you might miss the whole thing thinking it was not much of a town. However, the room was clean, food was ok. You had to really stay with it to get questions answered by the staff, and we were asked to leave the breakfast area one morning to open for lunch with not one person waiting. The pool area is very nice, I would give it a 4. Clean, relaxing, very Zen. The only place nearby to eat is Perlan which is a beautiful high end dining room with a great view and a cafeteria bar on the level below.

Room Tip: Room on other side of runway!

This hotel has very poor restaurant and bar service, tiny rooms with single beds, poor service at the front desk at night and a location that requires very expensive taxi rides into downtown if you don't want to take the long walk (again)...We stayed here at each end of our IcelandAir Northern Lights Tour and were very disappointed with our small room and the fact that we couldn't get through to the front desk no matter how many times we tried. We tried to have dinner here after the red eye from NY and it was a disaster (even after asking to be moved and to have a waiter assigned to us to try to get decent service...). The first breakfast had very delicious loaves of bread but when I asked for bread at the buffet the last day they told me they only had what was out in the open air already sliced - yuck. There was no comparison eating at 8 vs. 10 am. Too bad since the included buffet was the saving grace on the way in. I did really enjoy the spa and indoor pool although the steam bath was too hot for my feet and kind of dirty. On our way out the shuttle was late, got stuck in the parking lot and we came close to missing the flight. We also were not given the complimentary bus tickets that were supposed to come with the package. You can walk to the Perlan and Saga museum from here and that is well worth the visit.
