We only spend night here but it was clean and comfort. The staff were really helpful with sorting out the hire company to come and pick us up the next day. Breakfast was really good too. It's a great central place to stay with everything within easy walking distant

We stayed 3 nights in Hotel Skjaldbreid and found the hotel staff very friendly. Our evening flight meant that we didn't arrive at the hotel until 1.30 am however despite the late hour, we received a friendly welcome.... Our room No 204 was a decent size although the bathroom was a tad small and whilst the first impression that the bed looked a little basic, we found it to be extremely comfortable. There is a fridge with minibar, hairdryer, kettle and tea and coffee facilities available. Breakfast each day was the same continental buffet, however everything was fresh and plentiful and ranged from cheese, bread rolls, toast, boiled eggs, ham, salami, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea & juice. The reception staff were most helpful in following up on our excursion enquiries and hire car booking with the respective operators and nothing seemed too much trouble. The hotel is ideally situated in the middle of the city centre and only a short walk from the harbour. I would happily stay in this hotel again should I make a return visit

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper I would suggest you ask for a room off the main street as the locals are...

We have ordered a room in this hotel for 1200 NOK for 2 people with each day breakfast. Before a trip, we were afraid that for this price will get some [--] hostel or smth. But it was just the best hotel by all parameters. Obviously, the price. Then, location (thats the most central place in the whole Reikjavik). Staff is extremely welcoming, room service is very good. They provided coffee and tea to our room each day. Plus, kitchen was right in our floor, where guests are welcome to have a rest with a cup of tea during the day. Breakfast is very good, especially considering the price. Just very well recommended for a perfect trip to Iceland!

This was not my choice of hotel but we got put here because IcelandAir overbooked Klopp and had to send us somewhere. Skjaldbreid was clean, friendly staff, good location, but WAY TO LOUD on weekends. And apparently people in Iceland don't start partying until midnight and continues until 3-4 in the morning. Unless you plan to be out with them, otherwise stay somewhere else.

We recently returned from a few days stay at this hotel. This was our first time in Reykjavik. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for - fantastic value, great location, very clean and comfortable, great breakfast and welcoming and helpful staff. Our room was quite small and yes, there are party people in the street below in the early hours on Friday and Saturday night. However, we were so busy during our stay we were so tired we slept like logs in a very comfortable bed. The opportunity to have free hot drinks at anytime was very welcome - the weather was freezing!
I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place to stay whilst you are busy exploring! Perhaps if you wanted luxury and a nice restaurant this may not be for you ...... there are plenty of lovely restaurants only a few metres away.
This hotel met our needs perfecly and yes, I would certainly return.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask if there are rooms available away from potential party street noise?

The hotel is not 4 star...it´s more like a 2/3 and quite dated. If you go on a weekend expect to be awake until 5am from the bars on the street! Initially we were given a room opposite the 24 hour reception but after complaining we were kindly moved to the top of the building on the side away from the road. Even with ear plugs in I could hear the sound of the music although it wasn´t too bad to prevent us sleeping from up there. The room was cleaned every day but I found tomato sauce stains on my actual pillow and make-up stain on the clean towel but these were quickly replaced without issue. The breakfast was OK (fruit, toast, hard boiled egg, yoghurt and cereal only) but could get boring after a couple of days. The location of the hotel was on the main street with plenty of restaurants and shops on the same street. Don´t go to Reykjavik expecting a nice city break.....once you´ve seen the Geysir, the waterfall, the Blue Lagoon and the pleasant and unusual scenery there is nothing else!! If you like hiking and outdoor activities then this is a good holiday (and a good base) for you but don´t go in winter!!! There is not much to do if the weather is bad. The restaurants are all over priced and poor quality....sorry for the harsh review but we didn´t really enjoy our stay there.

Room Tip: Our room was 411 and i´m told it was the quietest in the building.

We loved the Skjaldbreid hotel. It has a great location - walking distance to all great places anyone would like to see in Reykjavik. The room was very clean and the bed very comfy. I found the staff helpful and nice. You could hear the city-noise on Friday and Saturday night, but it didn't interrupt our sleep. Breakfast was every day the same, but we liked it a lot. I would highly recommend this place, and would definitely stay there again.
