There are two Radisson hotels in Reykjavik – Radisson Blu 1919 Hotel which is right in downtown Reykjavik - and Radisson Blu Saga Saga Hotel, which is about 1.7 km from the former. I stayed in the Saga Hotel, which is about 2.4 km from Reykjavik airport or 7 minutes by car. It is located just more than one km from downtown Reykjavik in a peaceful and quite residential area. The hotel has a movie hall with 4 screens right next to it and a bank-Arion Banki- which can be accessed from the same building itself for your foreign exchange requirements.
Radisson Blu Saga Reykjavik lives up to the Radisson quality worldwide.
The reception is large and brightly lit and check-in was prompt and quick.
The rooms are large by any standard – in fact very large by Icelandic standards. A rotary knob in the room permits setting the room temperature using a heating element. Similarly, a knob in the washroom selects ideal temperature for the water from the shower as well. There is a mini-bar, kettle with items for tea and coffee and all toiletries in the washroom. Intercom with ‘One Touch Service’ was helpful. A large study table makes the stay comfortable for work as well. The bed was large and comfortable for a good sleep. The view from the room of the surrounding residential area and the hills was serene.
‘Sunnusalur’ restaurant at the lobby level serves breakfast, which has a nice spread. ‘Skrudur’ restaurant at lobby level has buffets for lunch and dinner, which are not too pricey by Islandic rates. There is a tourist information centre at the lobby which permits you to get a good deal for sightseeing tours in and around Reykjavik.
Below lobby level is a well-equipped gym fitted with equipment by UK company ‘Pulse Fitness’. The Mecca Spa at the same level has a jacuzzi, dry sauna and steam sauna, which are complimentary for guests of the hotel. There is also facility for salon for men and women. Various types of massages are available with a separate massage room for couples and pregnant women.
The rooms were all occupied in June, which indicates that the hotel is immensely popular in Reykjavik.
All in all, expect to have good service and a wonderful stay at this hotel.
