Radisson Blu Saga Hotel
Ranked #44 of 54 Hotels in Reykjavik

Reviewed July 3, 2014

There are two Radisson hotels in Reykjavik – Radisson Blu 1919 Hotel which is right in downtown Reykjavik - and Radisson Blu Saga Saga Hotel, which is about 1.7 km from the former. I stayed in the Saga Hotel, which is about 2.4 km from Reykjavik airport or 7 minutes by car. It is located just more than one km from downtown Reykjavik in a peaceful and quite residential area. The hotel has a movie hall with 4 screens right next to it and a bank-Arion Banki- which can be accessed from the same building itself for your foreign exchange requirements.

Radisson Blu Saga Reykjavik lives up to the Radisson quality worldwide.

The reception is large and brightly lit and check-in was prompt and quick.

The rooms are large by any standard – in fact very large by Icelandic standards. A rotary knob in the room permits setting the room temperature using a heating element. Similarly, a knob in the washroom selects ideal temperature for the water from the shower as well. There is a mini-bar, kettle with items for tea and coffee and all toiletries in the washroom. Intercom with ‘One Touch Service’ was helpful. A large study table makes the stay comfortable for work as well. The bed was large and comfortable for a good sleep. The view from the room of the surrounding residential area and the hills was serene.

‘Sunnusalur’ restaurant at the lobby level serves breakfast, which has a nice spread. ‘Skrudur’ restaurant at lobby level has buffets for lunch and dinner, which are not too pricey by Islandic rates. There is a tourist information centre at the lobby which permits you to get a good deal for sightseeing tours in and around Reykjavik.

Below lobby level is a well-equipped gym fitted with equipment by UK company ‘Pulse Fitness’. The Mecca Spa at the same level has a jacuzzi, dry sauna and steam sauna, which are complimentary for guests of the hotel. There is also facility for salon for men and women. Various types of massages are available with a separate massage room for couples and pregnant women.

The rooms were all occupied in June, which indicates that the hotel is immensely popular in Reykjavik.

All in all, expect to have good service and a wonderful stay at this hotel.

ideally placed for a short walk into the centre of Reykjavik.
The rooms were quite large and had comfortable beds and a lovely large bathroom. there was a room safe, hair dryer, which was very useful. Also a hospitality tray in the room was very welcoming. some of the furniture was worn and probably required updating.
the evening buffet was excellent with a good choice of dishes.
the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and I got to sample the local twisted donut.

Average hotel at above average price.
This was probably a great place 25 years ago but it hasn't moved on. The breakfast was mediocre and luke warm - it's well worth the walk to Cafe Paris for brunch before 11:00am.

My wife and I stayed in a business class room for three nights and were very satisfied with the staff and the room. The rooms had beautiful hardwood floors with very comfortable beds with a a nice view of Reykjavik. Despite 21 hours of daylight, we were able to get a great nights sleep. The breakfast was served until 10:30 AM and had a great variety of Icelandic foods.

Went as a group of 50... they seemed overwhelmed by our arrival and had some mix ups with rooms. Some rooms were really awful, others were relatively nice... none are really to the standards I expected. However, it is probably the best of a bad bunch in the vicinity. Not a lot of places could cater for our group size. Wouldn't recommend to couples or families as around 20 min walk in to town, and there are probably hotels with better maintained facilities and services nearer to the town centre. The spa and gym were always closed during our 4 night stay.

Stayed three nights. Location not the best, and a bit noisy near the street. My room was quiet, fortunately. Good breakfast. Great restaurant on the top floor. Good service and great food. Fine dining, clearly not your average hotel restaurant.

As a bonus, NASA astronauts stayed at the hotel in the 1970s.

We stayed here for four nights on our recent visit to Iceland. We found all the staff to be very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room (4th floor) was well serviced every day. Although the hotel was quite busy we experienced non of the problems at breakfast highlighted in some reviews. The breakfasts were very good, our only complaint being the hot food being only warm rather than hot. We ate in the Bistro every night and the food and drink was excellent and no more expensive than the prices in many of the city restaurants which we looked at. A very enjoyable stay.
