“Great location”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We stayed 2 nights in unit 61 and were very happy with it. Now that I have been there I can say we felt the location was absolutely the best you could have. It was a short walk to the harbor and the shopping areas along Laugavegur and Skolavordustigur streets. Since we arrived at 9 am we were able to leave our bags inside the entrance until we could get our keys later that day.

Iceland Excursion (Gray Line) dropped us off on the main street of Frikirkjuveguv in front of the apartments but when they came to pick us up for the return to the airport they came down the small one way street along the side and passed us by. This left us on the streets at 4:45 in the morning and we had to take a taxi ($135 USD) to make our flight. We used Bustravel for a tour and they picked us up and dropped us off on the main street which we expected so I can only caution you to also watch the side street for your transportation or you may be left stranded as we were.

We recently stayed for 6 nights in the sister Embassy Luxury Apartments number 100. The facilities were very good, bed very comfortable and whole place clean. Communication with the owner was easy and getting into the apartment was a simple procedure. Although the bathroom is positioned straight off the lounge it was OK for just the two of us. A counter top dishwasher was welcome however, it would have been useful to have access to a washing machine. The apartment was in an excellent position opposite the Russian Embassy 3 minutes from the centre and the restaurants and cafes yet in a very quiet location. A supermarket was also nearby and a wine/beer shop. Free wi-fi was a bonus. We would highly recommend the Embassy Luxury Apartments and will hopefully return soon. Thank you to Freyja for helping to make our time in Iceland truly special.

Stayed in apartment 40 for six nights while visiting our daughter at university. apartment is quite small, as mentioned before, but plenty big enough for what you need. Cleaned every day with bed made and any washing up you may have left, magically done!

Positives- location is great, five minute walk to either the harbour or the main street with many bars and restaurants in both places. Very clean. Comfortable beds with plenty of pillows. Kitchen well stocked with toaster, coffee machine, kettle, microwave, hob and dishwasher. Free wi-fi.

Negatives- very few, on some days it lies under the main flight path for Reykjavik domestic airport and can be noisy, on our first night I was woken at 4am by a loud plane! Hard floors meant we could hear our neightbours upstairs clopping around late at night or early in the morning.

Will be booking same place when we return in December though so must be good!

I rented this hotel's most modest room, and it was ideal: secluded, spacious, clean, and well-furnished, with kitchenette and leather couch. Never did see the owner/manager, but the telephone check-in procedure was easy enough. I especially appreciated the location: quiet, but with the heart of town just a short walk away. The charge for on-street parking is modest, and applies only from 10 am to 6 pm. An easy first choice, in my opinion.

My wife and i stayed at the apartment 20 for 5 nights. We were really happy with the choice we made and these apartments were definitely a part of our memories of Iceland. When we first checked into the apartments, we were a bit disappointed as the apartment was rather small, however it grew on us as the days went on.

Big positives:
- very good location, away from the noise yet close to all the restaurants, pubs, shopping, tourist spots etc.
- excellent service with daily cleaning and change of towels etc
- well heated rooms with blinders on windows (essentials for Iceland!)
- well stocked kitchen with the right amenities
- we stayed at apartment 20 that had amazing views of the Tjornin pond and a cute small balcony
- large LCD with good variety of TV channels.
- Great parking just outside the apartment that was FREE from 6 pm to 10 am next day.
- very comfortable beds and heated bathroom floor.

while the positives were many, there were a few minor glitches that we would like to point out and maybe the management can improve on further:
- the apartment and the bathroom are quite tiny (i know the management cant change this but just mentioning to correct the expectations of future travellers)
- it would be great if someone from the management were to personally meet the guests upon arrival atleast once, just to help on recommendations etc (i know there was a good guide and telephone, however a personal touch always helps)
- at times, new guests checking in were obviously not aware of how the keys are kept so they tend to buzz all the apartments up. We got couple of such buzzes at odd hours and found to be a irritant,

other than these, the apartments are great and definitely recommended in Reykjavik.

Room Tip: Stay in the apartment with the balcony overlooking the pond.

Thank you for your very positive review. We do meet most of our guests when they arrive. If we need to attend to other apartments we have a backup system to ensure immediate check-in. We place the keys in an envelope in the foyer and buzz guests in, then phone to make sure everything is as it should be. Because envelops for all guests are ready guests sometimes believe we are never there! In fact we are there 24/7 to assist guests on arrival and give information.

The bathrooms are on the small side but all newly refurbished with heated floors. And we keep upgrading our apartments constantly. We send surveys to all departing guests and ask for their advice on what could be better. We have made scores of improvements with their help and advice and usually implement every suggestion.

We stayed here twice, once upon arrival in Iceland (#62) and then again for another night before departure (#20). Both rooms were spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. They seem to have thought about all the small details you would need. There's a tent card in the room with many helpful instructions and listings, for cafes, groceries, laundromat, important phone #s, etc.

The location is excellent, everything within walking distance. (Try dinner at Icelandic Fish & Chips ... yummy!) During our 2nd stay we had a rental car. Parking was simple on the street and very reasonably priced. You only need to pay from 10 - 6 during the week and $2. got us 4 hours.

We used the breakfast service during our first stay, which was convenient. We didn't use the airport transfer service as we found Iceland Guided Tours provided a more economical transfer service (just $10 more than Flybus and direct to our door with a running commentary from the driver).

Overall, we recommend and would stay here again.

We were so thrilled with our stay in the apartments. We are used to staying in self catering but didn't have the budget to do so in Reykjavik. The apartments, due to this, were perfect for us - private yet help and advice was easily avaliable if we needed.

We stayed in apartment 10. It was just right and loved the luxury of having separate kitchen lounge and bedroom. My only advice would be if you are easily bothered by noise maybe stay on the top floor as we could hear the guests above walking around on occasion.

The location is great, you can see a lovely pond from the lounge and the centre of town and harbour is on your doorstep. So close to everything including Icelandic Excursions which came in handy - they were also great.

The apartment was so clean and comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised that our washing up was even done for us. We had clean towels and a freshly made bed every day which was brilliant.

Thank you for a brilliant stay - we hope we can come back again soon!
