“Amazing breakfast but far from the city center”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

I stayed for 4 nights. Hotel was very clean and tide but I was missing 4* hotel basic standard such as cleaning set (shower gel, shampoo, lotion, teeth brush or teeth paste). Room was warm but furniture and whole impression of the room was average. Breakfast were GREAT with many choices (from eggs to salads)! I especially liked healthy corner and PESTO (!) and fire in the middle of the dining room warming it up. Hotel itself was OK but it is a bit far from city center (15 minutes by walk).

The Grand is attractive and the rooms are spacious with US style bathrooms. The internet access is not very good, at least not on the third floor of the main building. We "Skyped" by going out in the hallway where the windows looked down on the lobby. The breakfast was generous and there were many choices, however it was exactly the same each day. We were part of a group which held a dinner in the 4th floor function room one evening. The meal was excellent and presented beautifully.
It was a good walk to the downtown shopping district, and we did it several times. We also walked to the city park to use the hot pools located there. There are less expensive restaurants in walking distance, so we did not dine in the hotel restaurant We did have dessert in the lobby bar area one night - it was scrumptious!

Room Tip: View on street side is of the city, not the water. The 4th floor function room is above some 3rd flo...

I stayed here for three nights. The hotel was clean, had spacious rooms and a nice lobby/lounge area where one could buy snacks, water etc for excursions as well as have a drink in the bar. We had a buffet dinner at the restaurant one night, the price was a bit high but good for a hungry traveller - about 42 Euro for an all you can eat three course meal excluding drinks other than water.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, and I really enjoyed it. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great in the morning. They had a really nice selection of breakfast foods. The staff were amazing also. The price is a bit higher than some others, but it's worth it because of what you gain in comfort. Also it's only a short (5 min) drive to the downtown strip from the hotel. Also the Kringlan mall is about a 5 minute drive too. If I go back to Reykjavik I'll likely stay in the Grand hotel again.

We spent many nights here at the start and end of our two week trip to Iceland. The hotel was clean, service was extremely friendly/helpful, and the rooms were adequately sized.

However, there were some issues with the hotel:
- breakfast in the morning was not very good. The eggs were powdered at best and hot dishes were not necessarily hot.
- while close to downtown (a 20 - 30 minute leisurely walk), it's still not as close as other hotels of course
- the rooms were crazy hot. The first few nights we had an inside room overlooking the reception area so opening a window wasn't very helpful. At the end of our trip, the room overlooked the front and yet, the room was so uncomfortably hot. We were told that temperature was set by the floor and could not be changed. We asked for fans so that the rooms were more comfortable. Odd that we had no control over the temperature.

Was here for business and enjoyed my stay. It's about a $20 cab ride for the relatively short ride into town--might be the only drawback. Very nice breakfast included in room rate. The staff was friendly--as were the people of Reykjavik.

Grand is a nice modern hotel. It was nice, that it was possible to open the window. Very fine breakfast. I missed bodylotion in the room. When you travel only with handbags, you can't carry it with you. You can walk to the city-center (2,5 km).
