The food was delicious.
A bit pricey but Reykjavik can be expensive for the most part. Great service. Salmon and seafood were delicious. Centrally located.

Had an outstanding meal here tonight. Husband had goose carpaccio, wolf fish with mango and ginger and creme brûlée and I had goats cheese salad, languistines (which were soft, succulent and melted in the mouth) and chocolate soufflé. Atmosphere was great, service good and great choice of wines (we chose a German white which had mango overtones and went well with the fish). A must for anyone who loves good food.

I went there and the food was really good. Many choices and really good dishes. The atmosphere is generally really good, although it might seem a bit small-sized. FYI: If you order the pepper stake don't say medium-rare, it will be like segnan. (And it was a bit hard to chew). The salmon was amazing and the lamb was really good. About the service, now. Good, but some mistakes when it was the time to server. When we made a reservation, we were not noted down and generaly service is their weak point I suppose. Generally: A must of Icelend with amazing food!

This is a superb restaurant in a traditional building serving a range of interesting dishes. Impeccable service. Refined food.

Restaurant Skolabru

So, on the last day (Saturday) of our (4-day) stay we found that several ‘high end’ restaurants were completely and fully booked, as we walked within the centre of Reykjavik. We had espied this place the previous night and thought that the menu looked very appealing; (“Duck adventure and Wild adventure”). We walked in and were immediately accommodated, although there were just two tables left free.

We were greeted gently & amicably and were led to our table with finesse. The menu included an option to enjoy a 15% discount if we chose the 3 course suggestion! So we did - with trepidation and tucked into a glorious melange of Icelandic fare including very fine lobster soup and wild goose starters followed by beautiful main meals of 1) duck and 2) roast lamb, excellently cooked to my individual specification! Such choice of cooking is rare in the UK and added to the individual feeling of this fine establishment.

The final course was ‘skyr’ (a local delicacy of thick set yoghurt and fresh strawberries and blue berries) but as this was not to my own taste, I was given the option to modify this apparently ‘set’ menu to substitute a chocolate cake and ice cream without extra cost! Delicious; as was the skyr that my wife thoroughly enjoyed.

The house wine (Chardonnay from Chile) was absolutely brilliant and my own choice of (red) house wine was equally smooth and full of flavour.

No rush, no intimidation and the whole experience was a complete delight to savour in the clean, relaxing and well-appointed dining room.

The choices in the capital city are varied but overall the prices are quite steep compared to the UK, but no matter, if you spend only a few days in the country such reality is there.

Of course there are other eating establishments where the ambience is different, as is the food but as a treat, it has to be endured if you want to experience fully the local culture! Prices remain high throughout the country though at all establishments.

Do try the local fare - for you are likely to be there only once maybe and there will be plenty of time to reflect that it was money well spent, given the plush surroundings and gentle atmosphere!

Thanks for reading this appraisal of our experience.
