The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were quiet, large, clean, comfortable and well appointed.

The hotel is situated fair walk from the city centre, shops and sea front. A good choice overall. Though if I stayed in Reykavik again I might look at a more central hotel.

Spent a long weekend in Rekjavik with friends, hoping to see the Northern Flights (no chance !!). We paid for a package with Icelandair Holidays which included flights and 3 nights b&b at Hotel Klettur. What an excellent choice, so many good points to say about the hotel:
1) nicely modernished bedrooms well laid out and had all the features required (other than tea & coffee making facillities)
2) check in and check out process very swift; staff on reception very helpful and nothing was too much of a problem to them
3) excellent location, very short walk to the main street with shops and restaurants
4) ample free parking very close to the hotel
5) ample breakfast, not a vast choice but enough to load up at the start of the day
6) 2 pints of beer for £5 during happy hour, which sometimes lasted 4 hours in the event that the Northern Lights tour was cancelled (most nights)

Overall, a great place and we would not hessitate to go there again.

Other worthwhile points to mention:
a) Hire a car, it provides so much flexibility and is very cheap - we chose FairCars through Economycarrentals.com; excellent, moden car with satnav; check in and check out very easy
b) Blue Lagoon - go late afternoon when all the crowds have left and you have the place to yourself underneath the stars (maybe)
c) Glacier walk was very good although it was a long days - 12 hours
d) Went to Geysir and the waterfalls - got totally soaked, even with waterproofs
e) Going in November means 5 hours daylight which is really odd as you have breakfast in the pitch black

Would definitely go back but would get on the prayer mat for better weather and a fair chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially with the trips I wanted to arrange.

The Hotel is in the centre of town and close to all shops and restaurants/bars.

This is only the second time I have been to Iceland but this has been the better hotel out of the two I have stayed at.

The underfloor heating is brilliant, and the beds are really comfy.

The ONLY negative I can give is that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. I did hear some other guests asking Reception for a kettle but apparently there were no spares.

We spent three nights here in early December. The hotel is on the edge of the town which is only a short away from the main street, shops and restaurants. Our standard room was small with a view of the street but this was fine as we were out and about most of the time and it was generally dark when you looked out of the window! It did not seem worth it to pay more for a couple of extra chairs, a brief view of the harbour in daytime or a kettle. Do take your own kettle if you like your cuppa. The hotel is quiet and we experienced no noise from the building site as we were at the front of the hotel. The hotel is basic Ikea in style and very clean. We had basic toiletries (no shower gel, just soap and shampoo) and a good hot shower but can confirm that the towels are tiny which is a problem if you don't have space in your cabin luggage to bring your own. The beds are very comfortable but more pillows will be required. We actually prefer the single duvets and these were very cosy. Our sink sprung a leak and flooded the bathroom which was fixed fairly quickly. Staff are friendly - but not always pro-active - you need to ask if you want something.

Breakfast was good - cold buffet - but with OK variety for the three days. Wifi only in the reception or bar area but available in lots of cafes if you want to use it in town. Overall we had a comfortable stay and would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here from 29th nov to 2nd december. The main thing we liked were the freindly staff, nothing was too much trouble and they always had a smile on their face. We decided to upgrade to a deluxe room, this was 6th floor, lovely big room, nice temperature, really good walk in shower, lovely big comfy bed and the duvets are really warm and snug, be aware that in iceland its normal to have two singles pushed together with two seperate duvets, loads of english tv channels to choose from. Breakfast was as previously reviewed a cold selection, very nice but I would have also liked the choice of something hot on a cold morning, did find if you went down about 9am it was very busy and a bit overcrowded. Bar at night was ok (2 beers for 1000 isk during happy hour) but lacked a bit of atmosphere, choice of spirits was somewhat limited, barman was freindly and chatty but just a little bit strange, nice guy though. Location of the hotel is quite good, 5 mins walk to main shopping street but this was quiet end, about 15-20 mins walk to lively area. Didnt get to see northern lights (trip was cancelled 2 nights out of 3) so will be returning and will probably stay at klettur again. All the main excursions and transfer buses pick up outside the door so transport is really easy.

I can repeat what many other reviews have covered, but you need to start by recognising that Reykjavik is not your run of the mill European capital city. Here you get what you need, with unnecessary frills left out. So, location excellent for the main shopping street, which begins no more than 2 minutes away, so rather better than say the Hilton hotel and other large hotels more on the outskirts. Reception is manned 24 hrs, but with minimal staff at times you have to follow the note on the desk and call to get someone to come from whatever they were doing. Most people need extra pillows, which are provided without question. The rooms are basic in terms of no frills, eg no tissues in the bathroom, and no tea/coffee unless you go for a de luxe room, and have little in the way of curbed decor - all straight functional lines! They are also clinically clean, with a good walk-in shower, and importantly, always at a good temperature. The rooms on the 6th floor at the back do offer a great view of the harbour, sea, and mountainous landscape in the distance (over the building site , which didn't disturb us too much). Breakfast again held no frills, and is a cold offering. Cereals, a variety of tasty breads and rolls, tinned fruit cocktail, sliced orange and melon, with sliced processed ham and cheese, cold sliced boiled egg, peppers, tomato, and a danish pastry. Tea and coffee is from a machine. The breakfast room is gloomy, and gives the impression of a youth hostel - it needs more light (change the light shades to white?), especially at this time of year when there is no light from outside. The bar happy hour (6-8pm, but extended to 10pm on nights when the Northern Lights trip is cancelled) is limited to beer, but is quite a saving on the price you'll pay outside, but again lacks any atmosphere and is quite a small area for the size of hotel. I'd definitely stay here again, for cleanliness, location, cost, and ease of transit from the airport, with the regular coaches dropping off at the door.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. Booked via Icelandair and dropped off by very efficient Flybus service right outside main entrance.

Problem 1-Partner has a crane phobia-huge tower cranes all around the building oops!.
Problem 2- Partner does not do Lifts ,only alternative is fire escape which is outside of the building on open grid stairs on building site side of hotel oops!
Eventually reallocated room on reception side of hotel and suffered lift for 10 second ride up to 4th floor. Room was typical Scandinavian-stark but functional and clean. Drawers and Wardrobe space was lacking and good job we packed a travel kettle. Towels are small but we knew what to expect. Bed was comfortable, personally I like a low pillow but extra are available via reception.

Female receptionist and night man were better than other reception people-failed to set our electronic key twice in two days. Despite of what others are saying our room did have an opening window to get fresh air in. Partner had issues with hair drier-have to hold button down constantly to work. No building work noise, but inconsiderate people drop offs and pick ups did disturb on a couple of nights-not hotels fault of course.
Breakfast was ok same layout food every day and tea/coffee was on offer at 5.00am for our departure too.
Booking trips via reception was efficient and pick ups right outside the door. One plus was that on every bus trip return we were always first hotel to be dropped off-maybe just luck on our part?
Walk into main shopping street was literally 5 minutes .
Top and bottom would I stay again a yes from me, partner would like to see building work completed before she makes a return.

Room Tip: Rooms on reception side are quieter away from building site.
