“Clean Modern Hotel”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

This is a good modern hotel. We were upgraded for free as the hotel was fully booked by the time we arrived. In all spent 4 nights there. It is about 20 min walk from the harbour which takes you along the main shopping street. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The breakfast buffet was reasonable and had a range of foodstuffs available.

At the end of our week-long whale watching trip to Iceland in February 2013 we stayed for just one night in this budget hotel prior to our transfer to Keflavik Airport.

The hotel is very new and our room on the Ground Floor (Rm.209) was situated at the rear of the hotel and overlooked the lower end of Reykjavik (a somewhat 'seedier' part of town) with low cost backpackers hotels and hostels.

Our room had no openable windows so it felt a little hermetically sealed (if you get my drift ?).

We asked for an alternative room and we were offered the room directly opposite. This room had 2 openable windows but overlooking a rather noisy student apartment building and the 'common' room. After some time, the students quitened down so we did achieve some quality sleep.

There was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which was a disappointment.

Beds were comfortable and the ensuite shower was smart and functional. There was no chairs in the room either.

So, definitely a crash pad !

Room Tip: If you like 'fresh' air watch out for rooms that have sealed windows.

This is classed as a three star hotel and it lives up to this. We upgraded our room which was very reasonable to do. If you do not have one of the upgraded rooms it is worth noting that you do not get tea / coffee making facilities in your room! The breakfast was a buffet style with plenty of choice but no hot food other than toast but plenty of other choice. The hotel was clean, beds comfortable and the staff very efficient and friendly. The location is very good and a 10 minute walk to the main shopping street with plenty of restaurants. The only "con" in this hotel is the Happy Hour - do not be fooled. Normall price for two large beers 1900Kr (about £10), happy hour price is 1000Kr (about £5.50) for two SMALL beers therefore cheaper to buy outside of the happy hour. All in all a wet but enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Top floors 5th or 6th some with sea view. These rooms have tea / coffee making facilities the cheape...

The first thing to say about this hotel is how friendly the staff are. They couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming.
Based at one end of the main shopping street the hotel is very conveniently located without being in a noisy part of town. To get to the other end of the shopping street where the bars and restaurants are is a 1.5Km easy walk even for someone like me that was hobbling with knee problems, or a 1,600 Krona (£8) taxi ride.
The hotel itself is modern but relatively basic but I don't think many people go to Iceland to sit around a hotel all day. The beds are nice and firm without being hard, there is a good TV, small fridge and excellent shower room. They only do breakfast which is a standard but very good cold buffet. For other meals you need to find a restaurant. On our 3 night long weekend we tried the Argentina Steakhouse, The Fish Market and the Fish Company all of which I could recommend and will post separate reviews.
Drinks in the bar are reasonable (compared to Reykjavik prices not UK prices) and happy hour - 6pm to 8pm - where 2 beers are 1,000 Krona (£5) is extended to 10pm whenever the Northern Lights tour is cancelled.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room right on the street and next to reception but it was still reasonably qui...

Average but probably good for area. My mate thought it was great but i thought it was a 2star trying to be a 3 star. However location is Ok albeit next to a building site. Staff very helpful. Breakfast continental. Perhaps it is very good for the area!!

I really loved this Hotel, Reception was helpful and polite from the young couple on the desk when we arrived to Christian when we left, really nice to have met them all. Breakfast was lovely, just a cold buffet but very nice and fresh. room was really big (on the third floor) and although I had my doubts as we were right next to the lift we didn't hear anything any night which was brilliant. The shower was enormous! I would recommend this hotel to anyone that needs a good clean friendly base from which to do their trips and cannot fault it at all.

Exellent hotel, very new.
The hotel front desk Man Christian was full of imformation about the various tours and the town.
We had a Golden Circle trip by BUSTRAVEL, the Driver/Guide was excellent and should be recommended. You must visit the Blue Lagoon and do the Northern Lights trip but drees up as very very cold after dark!
